Louisburg police continue to look for suspects accused of robbing a local nursing home resident.
Staff at Louisburg Manor reported on Friday that two women took jewelry from Doris Evans, 90, a resident at the facility on Smoketree Way.

A Franklin County grand jury indicted a former Bunn Police officer on four counts of indecent liberties with a minor.
Bunn Police Chief Kent Winstead fired James Perry in November after the guardian of a teenage girl brought forward allegations that Perry took liberties with the girl.

He’ll take the oath again on the day the General Assembly session begins on Jan. 26 in Raleigh.

BUNN — Commissioners selected a lifelong resident and town businessmam to fill a vacant seat on the board.
By unanimous decision, the board chose Don Mitchell to fill the unexpired term of Carolyn Files.
She passed away late last year with one year left on her term.
The decision came in the very building that Mitchell agreed to sell the town last year.

The executive committee of the Franklin County Democratic Party postponed a meeting this past Tuesday night that it had scheduled to select a replacement for Linda Stone, who is retiring as the county’s register of deeds.

The Franklin County Historical Society is moving along with plans to sponsor the International Whistlers Convention this spring, including a revamp of the website.
The group used $1,575 in occupancy tax funds to help pay for upgrades to its website in anticipation of what has become a biannual event here in Louisburg.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects who a Rocky Ford woman said has caused her months of aggravation.
Over three nights, Angela Mozingo reported that someone broke into a vehicle, twice, and broke out windows to her property.
According to one report by Dep. J. Maloney, Mozingo said the incidents have been going on for the past two months.

CARY - Geoffrey McGaughey, 58, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary.
KNIGHTDALE - Tony McDonald Wright, 48, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 9, at Bunn High School, Bunn. Burial was in the Gethsemane Baptist Church cemetery.
FRANKLINTON - William Solomon Egerton, 62, died Wednesday Jan. 5, 2011 at Franklin Regional Medical Center in Louisburg. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 9, at New Life Outreach Ministry, Franklinton, with Elder Donothan Muldrow officiating. Interment was in the Manasseh Chapel Baptist Church cemetery, Franklinton.
RALEIGH — Estelle Strickland Pearce, 98, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 at Springmoor Health Center in Raleigh. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Wake Forest Cemetery.

From high above the earth, hours after a crazy gunman opened fire in a shopping center parking lot, came these words:
As I look out the window, I see a very beautiful planet that seems very inviting and peaceful. Unfortunately, it is not.
We’re better than this. We must do better.
GOOD MORNING: However, that greeting depended largely on what, exactly, Mother Nature had in store for us weather-wise as I began this column for the midweek edition of The Times Monday morning.
It was, as most readers here in Franklin County were well aware, cloudy, uncomfortably cold and expected to get much worse, as the day wore on, with the possibility of (perish the thought) snow, sleet and/or freezing rain in the late afternoon, evening and overnight hours.
When I was coming up, a popular threat went something like this: even the president can get touched.
It meant that no matter what the consequences might be, if someone wanted to do you harm, they could.
That point was driven home both nationally and locally this past week.

Now the dust has settled from the 2010 election, are you glad to see Renee Ellmers headed to Congress and Glen Bradley to the State House?
This week’s Economic Forecast Forum, sponsored by The North Carolina Bankers Association and the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce, presented a sobering picture. Even as some tried to project optimism, Erskine Bowles, co-chair of President Obama’s Deficit Reduction Commission and newly retired UNC President, brought the crowd of more than 1,000 to the somber realization that the day of reckoning has arrived.
