PILOT - Peggy Hinnant Watkins, 75, died Friday, April 16, 2010. Funeral services were Sunday, April 18, at Massey Funeral Home, Zebulon. Burial was in the Watkins family cemetery.
LOUISBURG - Lizzie Mae Fuller Dorsey, 76, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Maple Springs Baptist Church, with burial to follow at the Dorsey family cemetery in the White Level community.
RALEIGH – Samuel Hartwell “Sammy” Ransdell, Jr., 54, of Raleigh, died Sunday night.
LOUISBURG – Marie Moon Bass, 86, of Louisburg, formerly of Nashville, died Saturday afternoon.
BUNN - Wiley Thomas “T” Hill, Jr., 73, of Bunn passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at his home. He was the son of the late Wiley Thomas Hill, Sr., and Mamie Wiggins Hill. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert “Buck” Hill. He was a long-time employee of F & F Equipment in Henderson. Later he opened his own business, Hwy 98 Repair, where he enjoyed working on farm equipment.
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Cody L. Ealy graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Louisburg police arrested a Franklin County woman who led them on a high-speed chase Sunday afternoon.
According to a report by Officer Travis Lincoln, a woman reported to law enforcement that she was being followed by someone in a gray Jeep Liberty.

BUNN -- One streak ended -- and another was continued -- during last Saturday’s action at the annual The Franklin Times County Track and Field Meet.
Franklinton’s three-year run as the county champions came to an end, as host Bunn roared to a 110-19 victory against the Red Rams.

BUNN -- The western part of Franklin County continues to dominate the proceedings in the middle school portion of the annual The Franklin Times County Track and Field Meet.
Last Saturday, Cedar Creek won the boys team championship for the fourth consecutive season, while the Lady Jaguars also took home a team crown -- though by the slimmest of margins.
Count me in as a believer.
I’ve always enjoyed covering The Franklin Times County Track and Field Meet, and I’ve always been grateful that my boss, FT Publisher Gary Cunard, has sponsored the event.
But some occurrences beyond my control last week made me wonder about the future of the event -- and made me ponder whether it was even worth our time to serve as sponsors.

LOUISBURG -- Billy Godwin took a 35-mile trip down Memory Lane last Saturday.
During his six-year stint as the Louisburg College baseball coach, Godwin would depart his Nash County home every morning in his trusty-but-rickety Datsun pickup truck.
It was a time Godwin always relished, as he would often ponder the responsibilities of life as the aging pickup would take him through Castalia, and then on to SR 56 through Edward Best -- and eventually to Louisburg.
GREENVILLE -- John Wooten’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th scored Kyle Roller from second base completing No. 26 East Carolina University’s sweep of Conference USA baseball foe UAB Sunday afternoon, 6-5.
With the win, the Pirates (24-12, 6-3) extend their current winning streak to six games, while UAB (10-15, 5-7) drops its fourth consecutive game.

FRANKLINTON -- Despite his numerous travels across the Triangle and Eastern North Carolina, it’s been 11 years since Tom Suiter visited Franklinton to present WRAL-TV’s prestigious Extra Effort Award.
That visit came in 1999, when Suiter, the company’s legendary sportscaster, saluted former FHS star girls basketball player Kristi Allen.
FRANKLINTON -- The Franklinton Lady Rams completed a regular season softball sweep over Louisburg on Monday with an 8-0 home decision against the Lady Warriors in a Northern Carolina Conference showdown at FHS’ home field at the Franklinton Recreation Park.
ZEBULON -- For the second consecutive day, the Carolina Mudcats spotted the Montgomery Biscuits a big 5-1 lead before coming all the way back to win the game in their final at bat 8-7 on Sunday afternoon before 5,924 at Five County Stadium in a Class AA Southern League baseball showdown.
BURLINGTON -- In USA South Conference Softball Tournament action, North Carolina Wesleyan ended its season with a 9-4 loss to Ferrum College last Saturday morning in Burlington.
Senior Kate Braun was 3-for-3 with two runs scored for the Bishops, who had opened tourney play with a 3-0 shutout of Averett on Friday. NCWC’s other loss in the double-elimination event came at the hands of top-seeded Christopher Newport later in the afternoon.
