Commissioners approve $20 million in COPs
Commissioners will ask the state to approve a $20-million funding formula it plans to use for a new elementary school, animal shelter and infrastructure needs.
Late last year, commissioners gave staff approval to pursue certificates of participation bonds to fund the remainder of projects outlined but not met with a $30-million general obligation school bond that was approved in 2004.

Zach Ayscue of Epsom grabbed a chocolate brownie before catching the Louisburg High School Band’s Turn-Of-The-Century Concert on Saturday night. The LHS Band Boosters had a table full of baked goods to raise money for the band, which is currently in the middle of a fundraiser to get uniforms. The band concert was moved from the courthouse steps to the LHS auditorium as rain showers moved in just before the 6 p.m. performance. BOE tables bid award for elementary school
The low bid for the new elementary school project is being scrutinized.
The Board of Education on Monday night was pleased to hear that construction bids for the school off Bert Winston Road came in lower than expected, but the board tabled action on awarding a bid to address concerns with the lowest single-prime bidder — J.M. Thompson Co. out of Raleigh. The low bid is $10,863,100.

The 54-year-old opened an art studio off Highway 56 on Saturday with friends and family joining in a day of celebration on the first day of the small business. They were also grateful for Spivey’s health, something she said she is thankful for every day.
