Franklin County farms are overflowing with strawberries, and while the fruits ripen, growers and the county are preparing for the Strawberry Festival.
The 3rd annual event will be Friday, May 19, at Shannon Village Shopping Center in Louisburg and marks this year’s opening of the Farmers Market.
Strawberries are the earliest product available at the market, Cedric Jones, director of the Cooperative Extension, said.

In a 5-1 count - less than one week after voters narrowly defeated a $45-million bond referendum - the board agreed to ask county commissioners for another school bond referendum in November and unanimously agreed to ask for funding of about $5.4 million in overages on the Bunn High School and Louisburg High School projects from the 2004 bond.
