ZEBULON -- Salem's Allan Castro hit a grand slam in the third and pitchers Dalton Rogers, Gabriel Jackson and Railin Perez combined on 13 strikeouts as the Red Sox defeated the Mudcats 7-2 in Carolina's Tuesday night home opener at historic Five County Stadium.
The score was tied 1-1 though the second before Castro connected on his grand slam off Carolina (1-2) reliever Fernando Olguin in the third.

YOUNGSVILLE -- Authorities continue to look for suspects in a shooting incident Tuesday afternoon.
Youngsville police allege four suspects fired on a 19-year-old man who was standing outside a residence on Thompson Circle. Scanner traffic identified it as the 100 block of that road -- which is off of S. Cross Street, southeast of the heart of town.

Franklin County has a long and often-storied history with bootleggers and illicit stills which have become part of local folklore.
Recently, a local man who is now a Youngsville resident, was part of the effort to find and control those illegal stills and the men who ran them.
"Moonshiners and Revenuers" is the true story of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent Johnny Binkley and his 25-year career with the ATF from 1969 until his retirement in 1994.

Long-time, and soon-to-be retired Louisburg College Professor Will Hinton is hosting an art exhibit showcasing pieces crafted by himself, his wife and two daughters. The exhibit is titled "A Family Affair: Drawings, Paintings, and Ceramics" by Will, Pat, Camilla, and Zoe Hinton. Aurora Musicalis, a string quartet now celebrating its 29th anniversary, will play at Cherry Hill at 3 p.m. April 16. The group, composed of four members of the North Carolina Symphony, has made numerous appearances to critical acclaim. Conjuring up images of the other-wordly northern lights by virtue of its name, Aurora Musicalis has been described as "one of the very best" chamber music ensembles in North Carolina." Members of the quartet are Emily Glover, violin; Erin Zehngut, violin; Amy Mason, viola; and Elizabeth Beilman, cello.

LOUISBURG -- Nearly five months after initially appearing before commissioners, a group of Franklinton High School activists reiterated their push for Franklin County to improve environmental policies.
This time, though, Commission Vice Chair David Bunn asked county staff to get them some answers, sooner rather than later.

Louisburg, NC--Marietta Miller Perry, 87, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at her home in Louisburg, NC. She was the daughter of Fred and Helen Miller of Lexington, NC, where she grew up.

Mr. Paul Michael Hall, age 70, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023 after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 22, 1952 in Raleigh to Paul Chester and Myrtle Lee (Hendricks) Hall. Paul was educated in the Franklinton public schools and was employed as a school bus mechanic for the Wake County Public School System for many years. Mr. Hall served his country in the US Army National Guard.
