LOUISBURG, NC--Lori Winslow Murray, 57, of Louisburg, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. She was born to the late Kenneth L. Winslow and Sophia Jones Winslow on November 1, 1965, in Pasquotank County.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Lynn Medlin, and her brother-in-law Robert Jones Jr.

LOUISBURG, NC--Lumas Odell Pearce, 94, of Louisburg, passed away Sunday morning, April 16, 2023.

A native of Franklin County, Odell was the son of Lumas "Fab"Pearce and Minta Perry Pearce. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with the state of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Cecil Pearce and Shelton Pearce and a great granddaughter, Emma Brekken.

Johnson-Chandler, formerly of Louisburg, NC, age 99, who died on Friday, April 14, 2023, will be held 12 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, from the Allen Chapel Baptist Church in Louisburg with Rev. LOUISBURG -- Advocates for children in Franklin County set up a display at the Franklin County Courthouse and another location, bringing attention to the damaging impacts of child abuse.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and the county's Department of Social Services, Guardian Ad Litem volunteers and Safe Space staff set up pinwheels at the courthouse -- reminding visitors of the thousands of children who face the traumatic effects of abuse in North Carolina every year.

LOUISBURG -- A dramatically altered and scaled back plan for the proposed Louisburg Falls development was presented to the Louisburg Town Council in a special Tuesday evening meeting. The state of the economy and the local market were among the reasons developers said some aspects of the project were impractical.
The meeting was for information only and no vote was taken about the proposed significant changes to the multi-million dollar development that would make it predominantly residential.

KEEP THE PARTY GOING. The Franklin County Parks and Recreation Department pushed its Easter festivities inside last weekend as constant rains created a washout. In conjunction with the town of Franklinton and the school system, they were able to host their annual Easter Egg Hunt inside the Franklinton Middle School gymnasium on Saturday. LOUISBURG -- The case against a Henderson man accused of causing the wreck that killed a Franklinton man was continued.
Jeffrey Thomas Clopton was slated to appear in Franklin County Superior Court this week for his role in the death of James Feely, 78, but the matter was moved to another session.

It's probably safe to believe that the Easter Bunny is back home, wherever home is, perhaps little damp but hopefully safe!
The big bunny had a rough time around these parts this year with all the rain and wind, but, as usual, he apparently delivered since there seem to be even more children hyped up on chocolate and sugar than normal.

Without fail, my gmail account has a few hits every morning about Franklin County news.
Of course, one thing I've learned in the years that I've had the alert set up is this: there are a LOT of Franklin Counties ... In fact, Franklin County is the name of 24 counties and one parish in the United States.

BUNN -- Last Wednesday provided a Signing Day like no other in recent Bunn High School history.
A total of six Bunn student-athletes inked deals to continue their respective careers at the collegiate level.
Three of them were softball players -- Lenita Bryson, Daisy Baez-Hernandez and Carlee Tart.
Two were volleyballers -- twins Malyshia and Elyshia Bailey -- and the other Nick Cutlip, a boys soccer standout for the Wildcats.

FRANKLIN COUNTY -- The final pre-break boys golf match in the Big East Conference ended the same way all the others have this season -- with Roanoke Rapids coming away with a victory.
The Yellow Jackets once again ruled the Big East during last Wednesday's 18-hole event at The River Golf Course near Bunn.

BUNN -- What began as a dream is now one of Franklin County's most eagerly awaited annual events.
That would be Bunn High School's Miracle League Day, which features an appearance by Miracle Leaguers just before a Wildcats' home baseball game.
The latest installment of the tradition came Tuesday at the BHS Baseball Field as the Miracle Leaguers went through three rounds of at-bats while accompanied by their Buddies -- members of the Wildcats' varsity diamond squad.

FRANKLINTON -- A.J. Dilworth was a jack-of-all trades performer this past football season for the Franklinton Red Rams -- work that has been rewarded with one of the state's top gridiron honors.
Dilworth has been named to the East roster for the annual North Carolina Coaches Association's East-West All-Star Football Game, which will be played July 19 at historic Jamieson Stadium on the campus of Grimsley High School in Greensboro.
