I wrote this on election day and the day following a Franklin County Board of Commissioners meeting, so public service was on my mind.
I was Voter No. 28 at Faith Baptist Church in Youngsville on Tuesday morning, so saying that municipal elections had ignited the voting population would be an overstatement.

Woman 'badly hurt' in crash with deputy

YOUNGSVILLE -- The State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a Franklin County sheriff's deputy that caused serious injuries for a woman.
According to authorities, Dep. Aaron Davis was responding to a call to assist Franklinton police with a large crowd about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 as he traveled west on Tarboro Road toward U.S. 401.

Suspect in Halloween shutdown is captured

WAKE FOREST -- Franklinton and Wake County authorities combined to arrest a Franklinton man following a manhunt that shut down Halloween festivities.
Armani DeAndre Ruiz was arrested on Nov. 2 -- two days after Franklinton officers began investigating allegations of sexual assault and kidnapping.
He is next slated to appear in Franklin County District Court on Nov. 18.

Sex crimes suspect surrenders to police

LOUISBURG -- A Youngsville-area man who police allege sexually assaulted a child surrendered himself to authorities last week.
Mark Strickland White has been charged with six counts of statutory sex offense of a child by an adult and six counts of indecent liberties with a minor and had an initial appearance in Wake County District Court on Nov. 4.

Arrest made in assault

ZEBULON -- Deputies arrested a Franklin County man on kidnapping and assault charges.
Deputies responded the evening of Nov. 3 to a home in the 1100 block of Sagamore Drive in Lake Royale after a woman there reported an assault.
According to authorities, the woman alleges Zachary Wade Smith wouldn't let her leave the house, grabbed her by her hair, forced her on the couch and grabbed her by the neck.

WILSON -- Even during their long losing streak, the Franklinton Red Rams have never stopped playing hard -- as evidenced by last Friday's performance at Big East Conference football rival Wilson Hunt.
The Red Rams offered one of their best defensive performances of the campaign and battled to the final gun, but it wasn't enough as Hunt came through with a tight 14-13 decision with fifth place in the league at stake.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg High School's place in the Class 1-A State Football Playoffs appears to be secure, but the Warriors still have plenty to play for heading into Friday's matchup at Warren County in the Northern Carolina Conference regular season finale for both squads.
Certainly, LHS head coach Dontae Lassiter will be looking for his club to head into the postseason on a high note -- and the Warriors need to respond following a lopsided loss at home two weeks ago to Granville Central.

Buffaloe set to compete

WARREN COUNTY -- Christian Buffaloe, a local Kyokushin Karate fighter, will compete in the "12th Kyokushin Karate World Championships" in Tokyo, Japan on November 22-24.
Buffaloe fought in a Japan-sponsored international qualifying tournament in New York June and gained entry into the World Championships.

HOUSTON, TEX. -- Former North Carolina State University baseball player Trea Turner and the Washington Nationals are the World Series champions.
It is the first championship in 95 years for the city of Washington, as it defeated the Houston Astros, 3-2, in a seven-game series (last was the Senators in 1924).
