And that's just reading it. Imagine if you lived in one of the places where this could happen.
Unfortunately, that is the reality for far too many people.
According to the story, USA TODAY Network journalists spent the entire year reviewing millions of records from the Environmental Protection Agency and all 50 states, visiting small communities across the country and interviewing more than 120 people stuck using untested or lead-tainted tap water.

Governator Pat McCrory finally admitted to his own political termination and conceded to Governor-elect Roy Cooper.
This provided one of the few bright spots for North Carolinians from November's elections. It is important to view it as a beginning; there is still much work to be done!
Analysts say the major factor leading to the McCrory loss was a backlash over HB2.

LOUISBURG -- Members of the Franklin County Firefighters Association arrived at the county's Department of Social Services this week, but they weren't dousing a fire.
Instead, they were fanning the flames of holiday cheer, dropping off a truck-load of toys and gifts for children in DSS's Christmas program.
"I feel like, being fire fighters throughout the county, we see people in the worst of times a lot of times," said Firefighter Association President Jim Pearce.

HENDERSON - Durward Macon Foster, 86, passed away very peacefully Sunday night, December 11, with his family by his side. He had a wonderful life. Born in 1930 to Tollie and Olive Newman Foster on a farm in Franklin County, he went on to join the Air Force and retired with a great career from NASA.

ZEBULON - Robert Franklin Smith, 55, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2016. A funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 12, at Franklinton Baptist Church, with Pastor David Averette officiating.

CASTALIA - Ella Yvonne Bobbitt Cornwell, 42, of Wake Forest, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 9, at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg. Burial followed in the Bobbitt family cemetery in Castalia.

LOUISBURG--Funeral services for Wilton B. "Dick" Perry, 96, who died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, will be held Friday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Richardson Funeral Home Chapel in Louisburg, with the Rev. Russell Miles officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Louisburg.

RALEIGH - Shirley Ann Edwards Williams, 70, of Raleigh died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel, 804 N. Bickett Boulevard, Louisburg, where services will follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Dwayne Milioni officiating.

NASHVILLE - Funeral services for Betty Ruth "Bet" Dales, 85, who died Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, will be held Thursday, Dec. 15, at 12 noon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hollister, with the Rev. Thomas Richardson officiating. Entombment will follow in Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

LOUISBURG - Funeral services for Kimberly "Kim" Alston Williams, 45, who died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, were held on Monday, Dec. 12, at South Main Street Baptist Church in Louisburg, with the pastor, Dr. David Rosby, officiating. Burial followed in the Lancaster Memorial Park Cemetery.

Payton Stephens, age 4, is all smiles riding a pony in the parade this year. According to her grandfather Steve Burnette, Payton cried wanting to ride the pony after seeing it in last year's parade. LOUISBURG -- One of Louisburg College's most beloved figures said goodbye last Friday, but Sheilah Cotten's legacy at the school is destined to remain forever.
One of the foremost advocates for women's sports at Louisburg College, Cotten was a long-time coach in softball, women's basketball and volleyball, with her most noted success coming during her tenure in charge of the Lady Hurricanes' softball program.
Cotten stepped away from athletics in the mid-2000s, but remained on campus as a sociology professor and chair.

LOUISBURG -- Volunteers working to restore a long-abandoned jail building said they are making progress.
However, they do see, clearly, some matters that might hold things up a bit.
In June, Franklin County commissioners approved a lease agreement with the Tar River Center for History and Culture Foundation that allowed the group to begin efforts to stabilize the East Nash Street building, which was built in 1875.

LOUISBURG -- A good forensics unit can find the smallest evidence, turning a hair fiber, strand of DNA or swatch of clothing into a critical piece of evidence to convict an offender.
For years, though, the forensics unit at the sheriff's office was more noted for what it could find -- tires and other junk filling its work space -- and what it couldn't find -- the resources it needed to do its job.

Louisburg has been awarded $25,000 to build five public electric vehicle charging stations that will be located at Louisburg Town Hall, Louisburg College, the Franklin County Court House and other town parking lots.
The charging stations are funded by Duke Energy and are part of the company's 200 public charging stations that are being installed around North Carolina.

LOUISBURG -- Police continue to look for two men they allege robbed a local sweepstakes cafe at gunpoint last month.
Officers responded to the Spin City Internet Cafe in the 600 block of N. Bickett Boulevard before 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 after employees reported that two men entered the establishment, showed weapons and demanded cash.
The two men left the business with an undisclosed amount of money without injuring any of the employees or any of the customers inside.
