There’s a reason Brown received the plaque from LHS head coach Erica Wammock. As the Lady Warriors’ starting setter, Brown was the glue for a prolific offense that rained kills on opponents during an amazing 2008 season.

Bunn’s top runner was junior Brannon Perry, who delivered a time of 19:15.71 over the 3.1-mile course. That was good enough for 82nd place.

Franklin County 4-H'ers were busy this fall as they prepared their crafts, produce, poultry, and livestock for the 2016 NC State Fair.Franklin County had an overwhelming 73 youth participate in the State Fair this year. There were 31 youth who entered items in crafts and 38 kids that showed livestock. Some of the categories that these youth showed or entered items into included but are not limited to: livestock (cows, goats, sheep, and hogs), poultry, crafts in the 4-H division and other divisions, culinary, produce and canned items.

The Franklin County Board of Education unanimously recommended Thursday night that the county commissioners hire Scotia Construction Co. to provide a new modular building for the Early College High School program.
Scotia, of Cary, was the lowest of six bids received by the school system. Their base bid was $1,275,000, but the final bid, including four alternates that school officials wanted, was $1,290,500. That puts the cost at about $112 a square foot for the building.

That’s how many students were honored at LC’s annual Hurricanes Scholar-Athlete Awards Ceremony, which was held between men’s and women’s basketball games at the Taylor Center. LOUISBURG -- More than 90 days after county staff said jail renovations would be completed, the project has yet to wrap. The latest delay puts the $3.6 million project at least nine months behind its scheduled completion.And water still ponds on the roof, a bit.Back in February and March, sheriff's office staff lamented a number of lingering issues related to the multi-million dollar jail renovation project, including a still leaky roof, drainage issues, a door monitoring system that didn't always signify which security doors were open or closed, high resolution cameras and monitors that still broadcast in low resolution, and the major holdup, an exhaust system that had to be built and installed.

For the second time in recent months, the Franklin County Board of Education received good news when bids for construction projects were opened -- a savings of about $1.1 million.
Calling the 15 bids received “really competitive,” architect Jon D. Long told the board it stands to save about 16 percent of the projected cost of the work.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke recently created headlines when he stated that, technically speaking, the recession may very well be over.
However, the 268,000 workers who have lost their jobs in North Carolina since the recession began may have another opinion.
So is Chairman Bernanke out of touch with what’s happening to workers and families? Unlikely. The Federal Reserve probably collects more information about the economy than any other institution in the country, and Bernanke is fully aware of these statistics.

I was in a different state and on an unfamiliar road. Suddenly, and without warning, I heard a loud pop, about like a gunshot. Then I felt the vehicle sag, and I knew exactly what had happened, a flat tire.
A piece of wood had flown out of the pickup truck in front of me, and I couldn’t avoid it. My left front tire went over it and was shredded. I thought there was no way I would make it to my meeting.
