Local is crowned “Mr. Engineer 2012”
On Sunday, Jan. 22, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) of NCSU held their 3rd Annual “Mr. Engineer 2012” Pageant. It took place at the Stewart Theatre in the Talley Student Center with 10 contestants participating.
The event was for Relay for Life where all proceeds went to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The SWE raised $1,200 for Relay for Life last year.

HENDERSON - Carl Richard Vick, 68, of Henderson, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Franklin Regional Medical Center.  He was a longtime owner and operator of Ingleside Grocery and Vick’s Grocery.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette Vick, and his son, Dennis Wayne Vick.  Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew Bowden officiating.  Interment followed in Lancaster Memorial Park in Louisburg.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg had an opportunity to create some distance Tuesday night in the competitive Northern Carolina Conference boys basketball standings.
Instead, the surging Franklinton Red Rams jumbled things even more.
Franklinton, which has been playing its best basketball of the year over the past two weeks, roared to a 56-37 victory over Louisburg in a key NCC matchup at the LHS Gymnasium.

Shock waves were sent through Franklin County in 2000, when the idea was first floated about splitting up the county’s three high schools -- Franklinton, Louisburg and Bunn -- in classification.
School and county administrators fought hard against the switch, but Louisburg and Franklinton eventually remained in Class 1-A -- and Bunn moved up to Class 2-A -- during the updated North Carolina High School Athletic Association realignment one year later.
