CARY (CHIP) L. BRIGHT, JR.

WAKE FOREST--Cary (Chip) L. Bright, Jr. died unexpectedly on Monday, July 15, 2019 at the age of 53.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Holton Bright, and son, Jay of Wake Forest, NC; his mother, Muriel R. Bright of Elizabeth City, NC; siblings, Debbie (K.C.) Beavers of Zebulon, NC; Roxie (Jerry) Schneider of Sanford, NC; his nephew, Andrew (Kristen) Zeh of Raleigh, NC; niece, Stephanie (Joe) Banach of Rochester, NY; niece, Elizabeth (Matt) Goldberg of Greenville, NC; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. His father, Cary L. Bright, Sr., of Elizabeth City, NC, preceded him in death.

Chip was born on October 2, 1965 in Elizabeth City, NC. He graduated from Northeastern HS and ECSU with a degree in Physics. After owning and operating C&C Hauling in Elizabeth City, he began working for the NC DOT in Raleigh, NC and, after 23 years, advanced to the position of Structural Engineer in the Field Operations Division. He was the recipient of the Jaycee Lifetime Award; an avid snow skier, enjoying many hours on the slopes with his son and friends; and loved riding jet skis that he worked on as well. He was most proud to be a "Soccer Dad" sitting on the sidelines with his wife, watching their son play.

The memorial service will be Saturday, July 27, at 2 p.m. at City Road United Methodist Church in Elizabeth City, with a reception to follow. The Rev. Charles McKenzie will co-officiate with the Rev. Sylvia Ball. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the American Diabetes Assoc. (PO Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215) or to City Road UMC Building Fund (511 N. Road St., Elizabeth City, NC 27909).
