RUTH NOWELL OLIVER

NEW BERN- Ruth Nowell Oliver, 74, of New Bern, North Carolina died on November 11, 2021.

Ruth was born on June 22, 1947, in Henderson, North Carolina to Paul and Bessie Nowell. She earned her bachelor's degree majoring in Mathematics and minoring in French at North Carolina Wesleyan College. She met her husband, Dan Oliver, of 54 years while attending Wesleyan. Ruth was a well-loved teacher to many over the years and was very involved in the church and the activities of her children.

Playing the piano, watching sports and spending time with family and friends were among Ruth's favorite past-times. She loved to cook and host her children, grandchildren and other family and friends as often as possible. Ruth had an infectious laugh and was a positive light to all that knew her.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Bessie Nowell; grandchildren, Madison and Walker Oliver; and several other family members and dear friends.

She is survived by husband, Dan Oliver; sons, Jason Oliver (Lidia), Neil Oliver (Claire); daughters, Katy Oliver (Sarah), Erin Oliver; sister, Linda Wilson; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other family members

A Memorial Service followed by a reception will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 20 at Pine Valley United Methodist Church, 910 Pine Valley Road, Jacksonville, North Carolina 28546.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Pine Valley United Methodist Church, 910 Pine Valley Road, Jacksonville, North Carolina 28546.
