Police arrest man for passing counterfeit bills
A Florida man who was hungry apparently got greedy.
Louisburg police allege that Manuel Arturo Queiros’ appetite for passing counterfeit money the morning of July 14 landed him in jail on charges of passing bogus money and drug possession.
First, proprietors at Advance Auto Parts on S. Bickett Boulevard reported that someone, later identified as Queiros, paid for items using three $20 bills that were proven to be counterfeit.

Franklinton approves capital improvement plan
FRANKLINTON — Commissioners approved a Capital Improvement Plan they expect to use as a reference for the next 20 years.
The town’s engineers, Davis, Martin & Powell, presented the board with the resource tool on Tuesday.
Specifically, it outlines the kinds of maintenance, repairs and improvements the town might favor in areas of water, sewer and streets.

Franklinton allows Internet gambling
FRANKLINTON — Town officials approved a fee schedule on Tuesday night, allowing Internet gaming in town while also giving the town a chance at winning.
A story in the midweek edition of The Franklin Times incorrectly said that commissioners would not approve fees for sweepstakes cafes until next month.

CORRECTION
An investigation into allegations of larceny at an ABC store was prompted by Bunn Commissioners. A story in last weekend’s edition of The Franklin Times incorrectly stated that the probe was prompted by an official complaint from the store’s manager, Mary Ann Masterman. Also, Masterman said the biggest reason for the difference in the town’s revenue projections for the store were related to the economy.

Carol Davis, principal of Franklinton Elementary School, announces the Honor Roll for the fourth nine weeks grading period.  To be named to the A Honor Roll, a student must make no grade lower than 93. To be named to the A/B Honor Roll, a student must make no grade lower than an 85.

United Way of Franklin County Community Impact Grants awarded
The United Way of Franklin County has awarded the 2011 Community Impact Grants.
In all, 23 programs were approved for funding after they were reviewed, considered by six community panels and further reviewed by the UWFC Allocations Committee. The volunteer UWFC board of directors – made up of 23 members - concluded final approval on July 19.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects who broke into a barn.
William Harris reported on July 19 that someone broke into the property in the 800 block of Duke Memorial Road.
According to the report by Dep. Bill Garrett, suspects broke a window and door to gain access.

VGCC Franklin Campus invites public to Open House
Vance-Granville Community College’s Franklin County Campus will host an open house on Thursday, July 28 from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. This  interactive information session will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room on the campus, which is located on N.C. 56 about one mile west of Louisburg.
