Everybody looks forward to the Super Bowl, without fully thinking about the post-game consequences.
For year another year, football is done with.
It starts in early August, with visits to oven-baked high school fields for the start of fall practice.
That season begins a few weeks later, followed by college football in early September.

LOUISBURG -- Strange as it may sound, Louisburg College men’s basketball coach Mark Vanderslice faced a somewhat difficult proposition heading into last Saturday’s home matchup against backyard rival Vance-Granville Community College.
After all, Vanderslice’s Hurricanes had defeated the Vanguards by 62 points last month in Henderson.

LOS ANGELES -- Christian Buffaloe, the 11-year-old son/student of Kenny Buffaloe, former Nash County resident, recently won the youth division of the Japan sponsored “2011 Kyokushin Karate U.S. Weight Category Tournament” in Little Tokyo  in Los Angeles.
This annual tournament is one of the largest and most prestigious Kyokushin full contact competitions outside of Japan.

The Hurricanes were originally supposed to have a four-game weekend series against Wilkes Community College, but last Saturday’s action was called off due to poor weather.

Rams to play in The Brittany
WILSON -- Franklinton will represent Franklin County at the annual Brittany Girls Soccer Showcase on April 8-9.
This will be the seventh installment of the event, which is staged at Gillette Park in Wilson.
The Lady Rams, under the direction of first-year head coach Jordan Germano, will meet West Brunswick High School on April 8 at 5:30 p.m. on Field Five.

Last Wednesday was quite a day in Gibson, Ga., as three players from Glascock County High School signed letters-of-intent to continue their football careers at Louisburg College. Limer, a senior standout, currently owns 101 victories, compared to 48 losses as part of his standout four-year tenure at Bunn.

The “Mighty” Tams coming to Louisburg College
On Friday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m., Louisburg College will present The Tams as part of the Allen de Hart Concert Series. The Tams have been entertaining and thrilling audiences for over 40 years with hits such as “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy,” “What Kind of Fool,” and “I’ve Been Hurt.” Though their style of music has historically been referred to as Beach Music, it can be also classified as a mixture of Smooth Soul and R&B.

Longtime lawman and Sheriff Pat Green resigned, citing health and personal issues. A day later, prosecutors prompted a probe into missing funds at the office.
District Attorney Sam Currin said Green’s departure prior to the revelation is probably not a coincidence.

County emergency communications staff expected to present plans to provide mobile Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)/Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems for deputies, police, fire and rescue workers during a meeting in December, but the matter was pulled from discussion.

Investigators arrested James Newton Perry, 26, in January, days after a grand jury indicted him on four counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor.

County’s jobless rate decreases
After only one county registered an increase in the number of folks getting work in November, December provided a Christmas gift.
Including Franklin County, the unemployment rate decreased in about two thirds of North Carolina counties in the last month of 2010, according to the latest statistics released by the state Employment Security Commission.
