Proud to be a “Spoiled Brat”
Proud to be a “Spoiled Brat”

I work in a business that sort of thrives on eavesdropping.

Three debates won’t help us decide
Richard Burr and Elaine Marshall have announced they will participate in three televised debates between now and the November 2nd election. If recent debates are any indicator, few will watch the three events and those who do will not learn much. While we love the concept of candidates facing each other to discuss important issues and visualize these confrontations being as significant as the Lincoln-Douglas or Nixon-Kennedy debates, we know this rarely happens.

Mollie Evans was my mentor
Dear Editor:
Ed Shearin had it absolutely right, as did Gary Cunard when they wrote about how  remarkable Mollie Evans is. She did what Curtis Media could not, which was hold together a business that competed with media giants in adjacent areas, and still managed to stay afloat. I had the distinct privilege of working for Mollie and I never had a mentor who was her equal.

Snapshots of the 10th Annual Justice Antique Tractor, Car & Engine Show
Snapshots of the 10th Annual Justice Antique Tractor, Car & Engine Show
QUITE A PROJECT. When  Larry and Karen DuFour of Cary decide to cut a board or two, it’s quite a project. First, they have to hook their one-third scale model Case 65 steam engine to a scaled-down version of an early saw mill. Once the engine is fired up and reaches a full head of steam, the cutting begins, as evidenced here by the growing pile of sawdust. At the Justice tractor show over the weekend, the couple kept onlookers fascinated by the complex contraption that actually worked quite well in slicing board-sized lumber from small logs that were fed through the mill.
