Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects who stole a kitchen sink.
And a bunch of other stuff, too.
A Knightdale construction company representative reported on Aug. 15 that someone stole the sink, refrigerator, dishwasher, a commode and 49 more pieces of household items from a property at 56 Hogwood Road.

County commissioners agreed to use bond money approved in a 2008 election to pay for a new modular building to house the Early College High School.
A public hearing on Monday night drew two residents on opposite sides of the fence, however, the board’s decision to use excess money from the $53 million school bond was unanimous.

LHS rising senior drowns in pool
A Louisburg High School rising senior drowned Monday in what investigators are calling a freak accident.
According to investigators, Markeith Kearney and a group of friends had gone to another friend’s house at 1512 East River Road to swim in a pool.
The friend was not home, but another man at the residence — Charles Mayo —warned the group that the pump was not working on the pool and water was dirty and advised them if they swam, it was their decision.

Pastuer in custody awaiting state Supreme Court decision on appeal
A Zebulon man will remain in custody while the state Supreme Court decides if it will hear an appeal.
A jury convicted Robert Lee Pastuer in April 2009 for his role in the fall 2006 death of his estranged wife, Narskelsky Pastuer.
In July, though, an appellate court ruled that prosecutors did not meet the burden of proof necessary to convict.

Louisburg utility project to resume after initial problems
Construction work on a long-awaited Louisburg utility project should finally resume after an eight-month battle that began with the bankruptcy, in December, 2009, of the construction company originally hired to do the work.
The original contractor, Mainline Construction Co., filed bankruptcy not long after starting the project and what ensued was a long struggle with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to get another contractor approved.

I read a story recently where a university professor explained that the decline in courtroom dress is the result of a casual society and ignorance of court culture.
