Franklinton officials sent out a more than $61,000 water bill on Monday that county officials have no intention of paying.
Both the town and county remain embroiled in a dispute about the validity of a 40-year water contract.
County officials and staff say the town’s decision to cut them off during a drought in September rendered the contract void.

One of the county’s largest employers was fined this month, nearly a year after spilling more than 1,600 pounds of phosphoric acid.
According to the county’s Public Utilities Office, Novozymes was responsible for spilling 1,675.51 pounds of 70 percent phosphoric acid into an aeration basin at the company’s Perry Chapel Road location.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies were part of a manhunt that captured one of the two suspects in a Roanoke Rapids police shooting this past week.
Authorities arrested Renee Michelle Phillips on Thursday after Roanoke Rapids authorities called in help from a number of surrounding agencies, including the Franklin County Sheriff Office, to set up roadblocks and close in on Phillips and Michael Eugene Edgerton — the couple that police allege shot Officer John Taylor.

Something was cooking at the Murphy House restaurant location this week.
Lot owner Johnny Sledge had surveyors at the site in an attempt to assess the location and figure out what to do with the site.
On Friday, Sledge said options remain wide open, including a return to an eatery or a new Sheetz location.

OneFranklinton brings all of the town’s community volunteers under one roof, streamlining efforts to host events and take on projects to improve the town.

Don’t look now but Turkey Day is almost upon us!
In just a few days — earlier in some homes where cooks prepare food well in advance — ovens will be heated up, cooktops filled with pots and pans and everyone will be eagerly awaiting the fun, food and fellowship which comes with one of this country’s favorite holidays, Thanksgiving.
GOOD MORNING: The weekend weather outlook: Sunny and mild with daytime highs in the mid to upper 60’s and overnight lows in the 40’s.
Tuesday night (the wee hours of Wednesday morning actually) was a horse of a different color, however. My little weather alert radio sounded off shortly after midnight Tuesday and for the next hour it was one severe weather watch/warning after another.
Oh, please, give me a break. Better yet, give all us Americans a break.
Just when we thought it might be safe to actually watch something on live television again now that those infernal, relentless, misleading and sometimes downright false political advertising commercials were gone, we’re hit with something new.
RALEIGH – The classic spy show “Mission: Impossible” was exciting, excellent – and misnamed.
At the beginning of each episode, the Jim Phelps character played by Peter Graves would receive a recording that laid out a seemingly impossible mission. After the tape famously self-destructed within five seconds, Phelps and his team would then show that the mission wasn’t impossible at all. Just really challenging.

YOUNGSVILLE - Constance Lee “Connie” Matzner, 67, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 at home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Nov. 19, at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, with Father Philip Tighe officiating. Burial was at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church cemetery.
BATTLEBORO - Funeral services for Baby Boy Xavier Maliek Spivey, 18 months old, who died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, were held Friday, Nov. 19, at First Timothy Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, with the Rev. Willie Hedgepeth officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
BUNN – Carolyn Rush Files, 76, died Friday morning, Nov. 19, at her home. A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, at Bunn United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rhonda Maurer officiating. The family will receive friends at the home at all times.
NASHVILLE - Funeral services for Edgar B. “Doc” Cooper, 90, who died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, at Richardson Funeral Home in Nashville, with the Rev. Carl Wardrett officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
BALTIMORE, Md. - Memorial services for Gertrude Dunn McCoy, 84, formerly of Whitakers, who died Oct. 18, 2010, will be held at 10 a.m. today (Saturday, Nov. 20) at Richardson Funeral Home in Nashville, with the Rev. Thomas L. Walker officiating.
LOUISBURG - Charles Cooley died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 at Carebridge Assisted Living. Graveside services will be held Sunday, Nov. 21, at 2 P.M. at the Cooley family cemetery on Burlington Mill Road, Rolesville, with the Rev. Wes Bailey officiating.
ZEBULON - Angus Wilton Gay, 86, a native of Franklin County, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today (Saturday, Nov. 20) at Zebulon Baptist Church, with visitation in the church parlor from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
Anna (Jeri) Cleveland Chugg, 95, died November 9 at Wake Med in Cary. She was the daughter of the late Nina and Claude Cleveland of Covington, PA.
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Florida man on charges that he broke into two Louisburg area homes.
Det. E.H. Smith Jr., arrested Brandon William Peterson, 18, on Wednesday, charging him with two counts of breaking and entering and two counts of felony larceny.
