But not even Cedar Creek had ever seen what the Jaguars and Lady Jaguars were able to accomplish during the 2018-19 school year.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College track and field coach Josh Hayman welcomes student-athletes from across the globe -- but it never hurts to recruit a few less than one mile away.
Hayman didn't have to travel too far to sign two of his latest standouts as he journeyed up North Main Street for a few hundred yards to ink a pair of Louisburg High School track and field athletes to letters-of-intent.

Brickhouse claims postseason honor

GREENVILLE -- Fifth-year head coach Cliff Godwin has been named American Athletic Conference Baseball Coach-of-the-Year, while East Carolina University junior Jake Agnos was tabbed Pitcher-of-the-Year according to an announcement by the league office Monday afternoon.
The Pirates also had six first-team all-conference selections in Agnos, DH Spencer Brickhouse, OF Alec Burleson, LHP Jake Kuchmaner, OF Bryant Packard (unanimous) and C Jake Washer, while Brickhouse (1B), SS Turner Brown and Burleson (UTIL) garnered second-team All-AAC accolades.

K-VA MAKES IT A THREE-PEAT

The Kerr-Vance Academy Spartans took the best two out of three series against Albemarle Academy on May 18- 19 at Boyd Field in Henderson. This completed the Spartans' run for a third straight North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association state title. The score for game two was 15-2. Prior to the championship round, the team defeated The Burlington School and Lawrence Academy. Several Franklin County standouts were on the Spartans' roster.

No tax hike is likely in Louisburg budget

LOUISBURG -- Town residents won't see a property tax increase in the new fiscal year in the proposed budget being considered, but the cost of water may go up for some and the cost of owning vehicles will increase, although the amount of that increase has not yet been determined.
The Louisburg Town Council met in a late afternoon session on Tuesday to comb through the proposed budget presented by Town Administrator Jonathan Franklin and his staff.

LHS sports complex out for bids; fingers crossed!

LOUISBURG -- The long-awaited athletic complex for Louisburg High School is on track for a summer construction start -- but one big "if" remains.
Yet if that project is on track, another -- a seemingly small renovation project at Youngsville Elementary School -- has hit a snag.
The Louisburg High project, which includes a new football stadium, track and other amenities, is out for bids after a May 8 pre-bid conference with contractors.

LOUISBURG -- County staff and officials, along with parks and recreation advocates, marked the soft opening of a new county park with a ribbon cutting on Monday.
A grand opening is slated for later in the year.
Monday's festivities, though, marked the first official opening of the park -- complete with a fishing pond and other amenities -- to the public.

Crosscreek to begin work on new school

LOUISBURG -- Crosscreek Charter will break ground next week, starting the clock on plans to move into a new school facility.
According to the school, the campus construction loan was finalized in April and work on the 20-acre site on East River Road will start soon.
When completed, the site will be home to 360 students, all on one campus.
