LOUISBURG has rarely smelled as delicious as it did Saturday morning as 22 pigs, each weighing about 120 pounds, came off cookers manned by those who love barbecue pork. These four were packing containers of the pork for sale. They are, from the left, David Ford, Carlotta Ford, Maryann Montano and Megan Arnold. Capturing second place in the event were the Pocosin Boys, Billy Perry and Mark Copeland and in third was Mr. Curly's Que Crew with Andy Harrison.

FRANKLINTON -- David Howle's 199th career victory as Bunn High School's football coach was one to remember. Not only were the visiting Wildcats able to defeat backyard rival Franklinton by a 47-19 margin, they were also to remain in the top spot in the Northern Carolina Conference heading into the final week of the regular season. Bunn is now 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the NCC, and Howle can achieve a milestone 200th triumph next Friday at home against Warren County.

Franklinton police arrested a man charged with assaulting an elderly woman.Officers were called to Franklin Medical Center the evening of March 28 as doctors treated a 74-year-old woman for a hematoma to the head and bruising to her back and tailbone area.The woman told officers that she had gotten into an altercation with her daughter’s boyfriend, Ralph Derrick, inside her home on Ramey Circle.

Mr. William Hockaday Cannady Jr. age 83 of Oak Lane Blairsville, GA. passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 23, 2022 at his home following an extended illness. William was born on May 13, 1938 in Louisburg, NC., the son of the late William Hockaday Cannady Sr. and the late Julia Love Snead Cannady. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force of the Vietnam era. William retired as a Pilot from United and Eastern Airlines with over thirty seven years of service. He enjoyed fishing, RC airplanes, traveling and was an avid machinist. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jean Graham Cannady in 2019 and a sister, Mary Frances Cannady. Mr. Cannady was a member of Perry's Chapel Church.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies helped a Texas man track down his aircraft. According to a report by Dep. Tim Joyner, Jeff Akhtar got involved in an aircraft sale that apparently got shaky and nearly cost him his $300,000 craft. On Dec. 16, aircraft dealer Patrick Dennison told authorities that he was trying to broker a deal between his client, Akhtar, and a local man, Brandon Scott.
