County has chance to improve its community engagement (relevance: 100%, date: Jun 4, 2025)
I hope you're not drinking a hot or cold cup of morning Joe ... or taking that first good sip of OJ, because a spit take might be on the menu ...
I actually agree with Commissioner Michael Schriver.
During our most recent meeting of the Franklin County Board of Commissioners, our governing board took some actions for which folks took great exception.
You can read about them in Gary's column above, or elsewhere in your edition of The Franklin Times.

Commissioners approve actions that limit engagement, critics say (relevance: 90.3%, date: Jun 4, 2025)
LOUISBURG -- Franklin County commissioners agreed to reduce their meeting schedule and update their social media policy without any discussion or public feedback.
Commissioners Mark Speed and Harry Foy tried to get the items pulled from the board's consent agenda and delayed for debate -- but the remaining members, Commissioners David Bunn, Michael Schriver, Roxanne Bragg, Logan Davis and Stuart May, refused.

JOYCE R. SCOTT (relevance: 80.8%, date: May 30, 2025)
CASTALIA -- Funeral services for Joyce R. Scott, 76, who died on Wednesday, May 28, will be held noon on Monday, June 2, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Refuge Center in Hollister with Pastor Linda Taybron officiating.

Residents' budget requests ignored by county (relevance: 32.3%, date: Jun 4, 2025)
LOUISBURG -- A roomful of folks told county commissioners to spend more money up front on school facilities, build an aquatics center and lower utility rates for its most modest users.
At the conclusion of the public hearing on the 2025-26 proposed budget, though, county commissioners sat silent.
They have until June 30 to adopt a budget and they have one more regularly scheduled meeting -- June 16 -- prior to that deadline.
