County Commissioners set to ponder revised solar farm rules
Commissioners will be asked for a second time on Monday to approve a process by which solar farms can be considered for development in Franklin County.
After fielding questions from concerned residents, commissioners asked planning staff to take another pencil to its plans to modify the Unified Development Ordinance so that it would address solar farms.

State unemployment rate is released
RALEIGH — North Carolina gained 8,300 jobs over-the-month and the state’s unemployment rate decreased to 9.9 in February, down 0.3 of a percentage point from a revised January rate of 10.2 percent.
“North Carolina continues to gain jobs,” said N.C. Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary Dale Carroll. “The state has gained 112,000 jobs over the past two years.

Water issue closes Edward Best
Franklin County Schools officials closed an elementary school on Friday because of water issues — particularly a lack of water.
According to schools spokesman Joe Baisley, staff realized that the well at Edward Best Elementary School was not working and the school had no water.

Holiday hours
Franklin County government’s holiday schedule has been announced by County Manager Angela Harris.
For the Good Friday holiday, each library will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, and remain closed Friday and Saturday of that week.

Louisburg police take unknown flasher into custody
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies arrested two Louisburg area residents following a drug investigation.
Chadwick Lee Foster, 37, and Jessica Nicole Mitchell, 24, were each charged with heroin possession.
Foster faced two more charges that pushed his bond beyond $100,000.
Mitchell was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, making her bond $26,000.

North Carolinians who value private property and who believe they should have a say before that property is annexed were handed a major setback in a Wake County Superior Court earlier this week.
Judge Shannon Joseph agreed with five cities who contended that the legislature overstepped its authority last year when it passed laws making involuntary annexation much more difficult.

There has been much smoke and fury this week over so-called Obamacare that has been the subject of three partial days-worth of hearings in the U.S. Supreme Court.
Frankly, there is much to dislike about this legislation -- and there is much to like.
More importantly, it seems to me, there are an incredible number of unanswered questions about exactly what will happen and what it will mean.

Franklinton decides hands-off approach best for water plant
FRANKLINTON — While the fate of a water agreement between Franklin County and Franklinton remains in a judges hands, the town has decided to take a hands-off approach to its water plant.
By unanimous decision, town commissioners agreed to let Envirolink operate its water system.
The Bailey-based company  provides consultation, engineering work and oversight for a number of municipal systems, including others in the area.

Sea creatures come ‘alive’ at LC faculty event
Louisburg College recently hosted a Faculty Day of Scholarship.
On this particular day, many visitors from other colleges were invited to participate and attend the many sessions being offered on what a college can do to retain students in order to get their diplomas.
Outside of the guest speakers, over 130 faculty members were present, and members of the faculty and administration were presenters.
