Help “Build A Backpack” during tax-free weekend
Collections for school supplies for needy students in Franklin County at the Louisburg Walmart continue this weekend in full force in emphasis of the tax-free weekend.
The United Way of Franklin County has partnered with Walmart, in cooperation with Franklin County Schools and the Louisburg Police Department, to take donations of school supplies and monetary donations to get supplies as part of the statewide initiative “Build A Backpack” through Communities in Schools.

The United Way of Franklin County has successfully completed all of its 2011 United Way Worldwide membership requirements by their respective dates.

Police arrest Youngsville woman on drug charges
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Spring Hope man for breaking into a house of worship.
The morning of July 28, Daniel Massey reported that someone broke into Rocky Cross Holiness Church in the 900 block of Carlyle Road.
According to the report by Dep. Allen Batchelor, the suspect apparently busted out a front window to gain entry.

Maybe the postseason ended a few games early for the Bunn Coach-Pitch All-Star Team.
Still, Bunn head coach Larry McKeithan had plenty of reasons to be thrilled following his club’s performance at the Dixie Youth Coach-Pitch Region 1 Tournament at McLeod Park in Florence, S.C.
Bunn went 3-2 overall at the event, which was good enough for a Top Six effort. The All-Stars also finished the highest of the four North Carolina entrants at the 16-team event.

RED OAK -- The Louisburg Warriors will participate in the annual Northern Nash Fighting Knights Boys Soccer Preseason Jamboree, which will be held Aug. 11 at the NNHS Soccer Complex.
Action will begin at 4:30 p.m. Louisburg will scrimmage against Southern Nash A, Southern Nash B and Northern Nash.
