LENOIR - Faye Land Crisp Palmer, 108, died February 10 at Hospice of Caldwell County in Lenoir, after a brief illness and hospitalization. She resided at 3764 Glenburnie Place, off Abington Road.
She was the mother of Dr. Michael H. Palmer, former resident of Louisburg and retired professor of English at Louisburg College.
Mrs. Palmer was born in Caldwell County on October 29, 1903, to the late William Cornelius Crisp and Hannah Ninabelle Land Crisp.
She was the widow of Lawrence N. Palmer Sr. Others who predeceased her were two infant sisters; a sister, Fushia Crisp Clay, of Marion; a daughter, Shirley Palmer Rader, of Charlotte and Raleigh; a son, William Cornelius (Bill) Palmer, of Hudson; and a grandson, Paul Palmer, of Hudson.
Survivors other than Dr. Palmer are daughters, Marjorie Palmer O’Neill, of Fort Washington, Maryland; Edith Palmer Laws, of Lenoir; and Carole C. Palmer, her mother’s caregiver for the last ten years of her life, of the home; son, Lawrence N. Palmer Jr., of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; a nephew, David Clay, and wife, Ellen, of Marion; and a son-in-law, Alvin Rader, of Raleigh.
She is also survived by over twenty grandchildren; over thirty great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren, two of whose presence she enjoyed days before her death.
She was the valedictorian of her 1923 Lenoir High School graduating class. She retired from Broyhill Industries in 1975 after thirty years of service.
The interment of her ashes at the family Crisp-Palmer cemetery will be private. A memorial service in celebration of her life is tentatively scheduled for early May.
