FHS swept all of the singles and doubles matches en route to a 9-0 conquest.

LC Sweeps Surry
DOBSON -- Louisburg College headed for the mountains on Wednesday and secured a doubleheader softball sweep over Surry Community College.
LC won the opener 5-3 before finishing things off with a 12-4 conquest in the nightcap.
The Lady Hurricanes, under first-year head coach Don Stopa, have won five outings in a row and stand at 5-1 overall early in the campaign.

McGhee resigns as county commissioner
The Franklin County Board of Commissioners will get the first crack at filling Penny McGhee’s recently vacated District 2 seat.
After that, it will be up to voters in the fall.
McGhee sent an e-mail to the county manager and commissioners on Saturday afternoon, resigning effective immediately.

Wake and Franklin county deputies teamed up this week to seize a truckload of what they allege were ill-gotten gains.
So far, Scottie Hunter, 35, has been charged with felony larceny and larceny of a motor vehicle — both Wake County charges. More are pending there, investigators said.

Election staff training to focus on ballot integrity
Board of Elections staff said they will key in on training to make sure there is no repeat of the 2011 fall elections when several voters got the wrong ballot.
It was an isolated matter that didn’t affect any outcome, staff said, but when dealing with about 300 ballots this year, a similar error would be costly.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Franklinton area man on charges of sexually assaulting a child
Phillip Jamal Manson, 24, of Pine Ridge Drive, was arrested on March 4 and charged with first-degree rape of a child and statutory rape/sex offense.
According to the arrest report by Dep. Nathan Rinker, Manson was arrested at his home.
