According to a report by Dep. Antoine Eaton, he was patrolling an undeveloped area of Kendall Forest Subdivision in the Franklinton area — an area noted for drug activity — when he came upon a red car parked on the side of the road.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College stepped out of Region X baseball action Wednesday for a home meeting against Stanly Community College.
The visiting Stanly club was able to defeat Louisburg by a 6-2 margin at Frazier Field on the LC campus.
J.T. Wauford got the start on the hill for the Hurricanes and worked four frames on the nine-inning matchup.

LHS claims tennis match vs. Raiders
HENDERSON -- Louisburg High School earned its second victory over Southern Vance in a one-week span as the Warriors topped the Raiders by a 6-3 score on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference boys tennis match at Fox Pond Park.
Last week, the Warriors, competing at home, were 7-2 winners versus the Raiders.

Louisburg to use new zoning classification
The town of Louisburg is going to “experiment” with a new zoning classification designed to allow the town to have additional control over how specific pieces of property are developed.
The new classification will allow conditional zoning based on site-specific development plans, according to Tony King, Louisburg’s assistant manager and planner.

US 401 in focus at DOT meeting
Improvements to U.S. 401 — most specifically Section D between Royal and Louisburg, were very much in focus Monday afternoon at a Department of Transportation hearing in Oxford.
At issue is a new but still tentative Transportation Improvement Plan that funds Section C -- between NC 96 and Royal -- for design, right of way and construction but which knocks Section D out of the funding cycle for at least a decade.

Franklin County commissioners called for a joint meeting with Franklinton in a move that could help settle a water contract dispute outside of the courtroom.
Both the town and county have been embroiled in the water squabble since September, when Franklinton shut off water to the county citing drought conditions.

FRANKLINTON — The town’s Tree Committee hosted its annual Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, planting a tree in honor of a woman whose roots were as as strong and deep as the mightiest oak.
The Tree Committee planted two trident maples, one in honor of Sadie Cutchins — a long-time businesswoman who ran Cutchins Funeral Home from the time her husband passed in 1976 through 1992, relinquishing the reins to her son, Town Commissioner Joe Cutchins.
