Recent News and Observer reports that UNC-TV accepted approximately $300,000 from The Golden Leaf Foundation and then produced programming boasting foundation accomplishments were met with disdain. The Winston-Salem Journal ran a critical editorial which concluded by saying, “North Carolina taxpayers, and the UNC system, didn’t create UNC-TV so it could run $300,000 infomercials about publicly funded agencies.”

CREEDMOOR -- Bunn came within one out of advancing from the first round of the Class 3-A Softball State Playoffs.
But it wasn’t meant to be as host South Granville rallied with two runs in the bottom of the 11th to edge the Ladycats by a 4-3 score in a back-and-forth matchup at the SGHS Softball Field.
Bunn, which was unable to hold the lead on two occasions, closed at 11-10 on the campaign.

FRANKLINTON -- Lindsay Dehart’s first season as head coach saw the Franklinton High School softball team continue to make progress toward the upper echelon of the Northern Carolina Conference.
The Lady Rams, with first baseman/backup pitcher Michelle Bailey as the lone senior, went 10-11 overall and qualified for the postseason.

I am writing concerning the District 3 Board of Education seat election results. Since John May had relinquished his seat to take Lucy Allen’s position as the District 49 seat in the N.C. House of Representatives, the Board of Education seat which was occupied by John May should have, without question, been given to Bobbie Richardson. She received the next highest number of votes.

Terrell Lane students arrested for assault plot on teacher
Louisburg police arrested three juveniles they allege were involved in a plot to assault a Terrell Lane Middle School teacher.
The arrest came four days after officers confiscated two large hunting knives from one of the 13-year-old students involved.

Ten Franklin County farms were on display, along with the foods, arts and crafts of local farmers and artisans. The goal of the tour, organizers said, was to connect people with agricultural opportunities in Franklin County. The county will be able to take advantage of a $40,000 grant that can be used to deconstruct, dispose and recycle materials from identified structures.

Commissioners agreed Mon-day night to move forward with a plan that could bring improved emergency communications to the county.
Commissioners and staff have a long history of trying to procure better service, going back to the early 2000s when the county spent $700,000 to upgrade its radio communications system to address radio and pager dead spots within the county.

The Boys and Girls Club in Franklin County has formed a partnership with the United Way of Franklin County, Time Warner Cable and a Raleigh cycling team to promote the health and benefits of peddle power.

Gibbs takes second place in statewide poster contest
Colton Gibbs, from Edward Best Elementary School,  was awarded second place in the N.C. Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts poster contest. 
The contest is open to third- through sixth-grade students and the state event was held April 30  in the offices of the NC Division of Soil & Water Conservation in Raleigh.
