BUNN -- The Bunn Middle School Lady Bulldogs outlasted the Cedar Creek Lady Jaguars last week in the All-Franklin County finals of the MAC-9 Volleyball Tournament.
Cedar Creek had upset top seed Hawley in the semifinals, setting up a title matchup against Bunn.

$565,000 grant awarded to advance widening of US 401
Congressman Bob Etheridge’s office announced that more than half a million dollars was made available to widen U.S. 401 through Franklin County, however, state officials said that money will wind up in Wake County first.
In a news release on Monday, Etheridge announced that the $565,000 would be used to widen the two-lane highway from the Neuse River through Louisburg.

Seven-term Congressman Bob Etheridge lost out on  a re-election bid as he was defeated Tuesday night by political newcomer Renee Ellmers.
Franklin County’s state legislative leadership appeared to be shaken up Tuesday also, as, unofficially, incumbent Sen. Doug Berger retained his seat and Rep. John May lost his post.

Bunn to study its personnel policy
BUNN — Commissioners have scheduled a work session to get a better grasp on the town’s personnel policy.
The issue came to light last month when the board approved the creation and hire of a new supervisor position within the police department.
The position was not advertised prior to the board agreeing to fill the post with a part-time officer already on staff.

The goal of Cow Chip Bingo is to choose a square that corresponds with where the first three cows do their duty.
By noon on Saturday, each square in the Walmart parking lot was purchased.
Apparently, though, one of the three cows that came from Meadow Farms likes to think outside the box because, on the way to the event, it broke free of a trailer at the corner of Bickett Boulevard and N.C. 56 — halting traffic, but fortunately, not doing any damage.

County tells Arts Council to report back in six months on Old County Jail project
The Franklin County Arts Council has at least six months to explore what can be done with the old county jail on Nash Street and then report back to the county commissioners.
That was the unanimous decision Monday night by county commissioners after Simon Brough, chairman of the Arts Council, made a presentation outlining the goals of the arts council and its plans for coming years.

AURELIAN SPRINGS -- Louisburg kept its Class 2-A State Playoff hopes alive on Friday with a clutch 20-18 road victory at Northern Carolina Conference foe Northwest Halifax.
The Warriors, coached by Chris Lee, moved into fifth place in the NCC with the conquest. Louisburg is 3-7 overall and 2-3 in league action heading into this coming Friday’s regular season finale at home against rival Bunn.

The fallout between Franklinton and Franklin County over its water contract has cost three people their jobs.
Franklinton Town Manager Larry Carver announced on Wednesday that the town eliminated the second shift at the water treatment plant and released two part-time and one full-time employee.
