This week, I had plenty of opportunities to share my Chilean culture. First of all, I was invited by James Hairston, Student Events coordinator, to share my Latin music with the students at Louisburg College. Then, I thought how much fun it would be if I invited my Mexican friend from Henderson and do a program together. We have not done many programs together lately, since we have been so busy.

CASTALIA - Durward Braswell “D.B.” Gardner, Jr., 68, of Castalia, beloved husband, father, brother and Papa, died Thursday, September 30, 2010, at Rex Healthcare.  He is the son of the late Durward B. & Esther Leonard Gardner.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, June G. Smart.  He was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed his spot on Gardner Farms.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Rock First Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Ricks Boone officiating.  Entombment will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Some Franklin County residents found themselves zapped by scammers posing as power company representatives. As early as Sept. 21, residents began complaining to law enforcement that someone claiming to either be with Progress Energy or Wake Electric called and requested credit card information, or else their service would be disconnected.
