The case against a man accused of precipitating a riotous situation that resulted in a sheriff’s deputy sustaining serious injuries is slated for a court hearing next week.
Prosecutors don’t expect any resolution in the case, though, as defense attorneys have apparently dug in their heels.

Restaurant owner’s apartment and bistro damaged by fire
YOUNGSVILLE — A fire on Sunday afternoon took away a man’s apartment and, perhaps, a business that was one of the new faces of progress in town.
Firefighters from Youngsville, Franklinton, Bunn, Wake Forest, Brassfield and Bailey responded to the  fire at 120 E. Main Street in Youngsville to find smoke coming from the top of the building at about 4:30 p.m.

After Saturday, the beauty of Lois Donaldson’s back yard wasn’t the only thing that was restored.
So was her faith in humanity.
A platoon of United Way volunteers converged on Donaldson’s Franklinton home, pruning shrubs and trees and clearing weeds as part of the organization’s Day of Caring — a day where more than 200 volunteers performed 33 similar projects all around Franklin County.

Recent rain not expected to lift water restrictions
FRANKLINTON — Forecasters predict rain through Thursday, but officials and staff don’t expect it to be enough to raise the reservoir or scale back restrictions.
A summer’s drought and a dwindling water reserve forced Franklinton officials to enact Stage III water restrictions earlier this month, essentially making it illegal to use water for any purposes outside save for firefighting.

Unemployment rate remains unchanged
Franklin County’s unemployment rate remained unchanged from July to August, joining seven other counties who kept the status quo.
And while a decrease would be better, said Employment Security Commission’s local branch manager Mike Brown, the status quo beats an increase in unemployment.

LOUISBURG - Louis Thurman Perdue, 72, a lifelong native of Franklin County, died peacefully on Friday, September 24, 2010, at Duke University Medical Center after a lengthy illness.  He was a lifelong farmer and member of Trinity United Methodist Church.  He was the son of the late Thurman Hight Perdue and the late Mary Helen Cottrell Perdue, born on June 16, 1938.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Ann P. Peoples, and a brother, Philip Sterling Perdue.

CONWAY, S.C. - Benjamin Elexy “Benjie” Edge, Jr. of Conway, S.C., died September 27, 2010 at his residence.  He was a native of Conway and the Hand Community, and the widower of the late Jean Lowell Johnson Edge (formerly of Louisburg, N.C.) and a son of the late Benjamin Elexy Edge, Sr. and Charlotte Anna Bourne Edge.  Mr. Edge was the owner of the Edge Stables and a retired farmer.  He was a Trustee on the North Myrtle Beach School Advisory Board (1974-1986), a Trustee on the Grand Strand Career Center Advisory Board (1975-1985), and Past Chairman (1984-1986) of the Grand Strand Career Center Advisory Board.

VGCC names thirteen to summer Dean’s List
Vance-Granville Community College has announced that 13 students earned Dean’s List honors for the Summer Semester that ended in August. To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student had to maintain a 3.5 grade-point average and have no grade lower than “B” while carrying at least 12 semester hours, according to VGCC Vice President of Instruction Angela Ballentine.
