What an awesome sight as I entered the cafeteria of Long Mill Elementary in Franklin County on March 19. Children were everywhere, patiently waiting to taste some delicious foods from various countries which the teachers, faculty and cafeteria personnel had prepared for the students to try. They were very excited and ready to capture every little aspect of some other countries’ cultures.

Maynard, however, has proven to be a quick learner to the high school game, and she appears to be getting stronger with each outing.

BUNN - Five days after an embarrassing loss to Roanoke Rapids -- by 14 runs, no less -- players in the Bunn dugout before the game promised a much better showing during Wednesday’s key Northern Carolina Conference showdown against Louisburg.
It wasn’t a stretch to consider Louisburg the favorite in the contest, as the Warriors were on everybody’s short list to compete for the NCC championship this spring.

BUNN -- Two previously perfect squads tangled Wednesday when Bunn hosted Franklinton in a crucial Northern Carolina Conference girls track and field meet at the BHS Football Field.
But Bunn closed as the lone unbeaten team standing as the Ladycats cruised to a 98-29 victory over Franklinton.
FHS’ lone victories came in the 800 and 1600, thanks to senior multi-event standout Megan Carper.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College rode some strong pitching en route to a doubleheader sweep against Potomac State on Wednesday in fast-pitch softball action at Sheilah R. Cotten Field on the LC campus.
In the opening game, LC wins leader Brittany Shotwell picked up another decision as she fashioned a three-hitter, striking out 10, as the Lady Hurricanes rolled to a 5-0 decision.

GREENVILLE -- UNC-Wilmington scored six runs in the final two innings and walked out town with a 15-13 win over No. 23 East Carolina Wednesday night at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium.

Board of Education approves 2010-11 budget
It looks as if the 2010-11 Franklin County Schools’ budget is going to look basically like the current year’s budget.
Acting quickly and unanimously Monday night, the Board of Education put its stamp of approval on a budget that would increase current expense categories by $340,059 over the current year and bump the request for capital outlay funds by $146,673.

Sheriff’s Department receives Patriot Award
Sheriff Pat Green didn’t establish a satellite office in Iraq, but when Sgt. Robert Legnante was last deployed there, he felt just as connected to the sheriff’s office as anyone.
Because of the office’s commitment to him and his family while he was deployed, Legnante recommended the office receive a Patriot Award from North Carolina Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, an organization of the Department of Defense.
