Farmland protection plan approved
County commissioners approved a farmland protection plan designed to steer agriculture into the future.
The 60-plus page plan, put together by consultants procured by the Cooperative Extension office, recommends plans for marketing agriculture, as well as selling the county as an incubator for emerging farms.
“A lot of the things recommended in the plan,” said consultant Gerry Cohn, “are things that are already taking place.

The Franklinton veteran was the first to get a dose of community spirit through the 2010 United Way Day of Caring this year.
Three Girl Scout troops – 961, 769 and 1111 – cleaned up Jones’ yard and replaced a mailbox that had been vandalized.

Newspaper gives in to violence, will cut back on coverage of drug wars
Most of us in this country have been paying only half-hearted attention to the drug wars that are rocking our neighbor to the south, Mexico.
But a development over the weekend is worth noting — and should send a shiver of dread down your spine.
The biggest newspaper in Mexico’s most violent city will restrict drug war coverage after the killing of its second journalist in less than two years.  In addition, international press representatives are urging the government to make security for journalists a national priority.

Peter Allen was one of a kind
Peter Allen was one of a kind
GOOD MORNING: It looks like this abnormally warm weather we’ve been enjoying is destined to continue  through Saturday with daytime highs ranging into the low 90’s. Sunday looks to be just a bit cooler, however, with a chance of thundershowers.
PETER ALLEN: ONE OF A KIND! Boil water advisory raises the blood pressure of county water customers
This past boil water advisory apparently burned the hide of some business owners and residents. And, for good reason.
