Timothy and Meg Wyatt of Zebulon are the proud parents of a baby boy, Ayden Samuel Wyatt, born Oct. 4, 2010 at 10:16 p.m., at Rex Hospital.  He weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and was 21 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Sam and Ann Perdue of Louisburg.
Paternal grandparents are John and Linda Wyatt of Sparta.

BUNN -- If time of possession was the sole determining factor in the outcome of a football game, Bunn never would have made it past the first round of the Class 2-AA State Playoffs.
But the Wildcats used their big-play machine to counter North Pitt’s grind-it-out attack, and the result was a 21-20 victory in Bunn’s favor in opening-round action last Friday in the East Regional portion of the postseason.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College’s strong start to the 2010-11 men’s basketball campaign continued last weekend with an effective performance at its annual Roger Taylor Classic at historic Holton Gymnasium.
LC went 2-1 for the weekend, but don’t be fully deceived by that record -- the setback was against perennial powerhouse Hargrave Military Academy, which boasts its usual array of Division I talent.

FHS wraps up season at South Columbus
TABOR CITY -- It took Franklinton just one electrifying play to gain South Columbus’ undivided attention during last Friday’s opening-round showdown in the Mideast Regional portion of the Class 2-A State Football Playoffs.
But after FHS struck first, the host Stallions dominated the rest of the way to earn a 43-7 decision over the Red Rams.
Undefeated and top-seeded South Columbus improved to 11-0 overall, while Franklinton wrapped up its season at 5-7.

Election results certified
Franklin County elections officials certified their results Friday morning, and provisional ballots impacted only one tally — Renee Ellmers picked up one more vote.
Nine other counties were continuing efforts to certify their elections at press time.
If Congressman Bob Etheridge remained within 1 percent of Ellmers, he was expected to request a recount.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Saturday, Nov. 13) at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Franklinton Chapel, 504 E. Mason St., Franklinton. The Rev. Jonathan Chandler of Union View Baptist Church will preside. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Otis Gill, local civil rights activist, dies
A  Civil Rights activist who taught its importance to generations died this week.
Otis Gill was 94.
Friends and family who recalled his life said Gill was a gentle giant, a farmer who took just as much pride in providing his family sustenance as he did in providing them a strong moral and civic compass.

Commissioners to discuss renewing Code of Ethics
Franklin County commissioners are scheduled to discuss renewing its Code of Ethics this week, however, the document doesn’t do enough to quell one commissioner’s request that the governing board adopt a conflict of interest policy.
In March, Commissioner Harry Foy presented the board with a proposal similar to one approved by the Kerr Area Rural Transportation System board of directors that prohibited members from engaging in activity that created a conflict of interest.

Law enforcement finds missing CCMS student
Law enforcement located a Cedar Creek Middle School student who wandered away from campus.
The 14-year-old girl, Sheriff Pat Green said, has a history of seizures and, for whatever reason, left the school.
The girl’s parents called her on her cell phone to alert authorities that the girl was missing.
