Don’t let pollen ruin such a beautiful time of year
It would be difficult to imagine a more picture-perfect Easter weekend than the one we just enjoyed here in Franklin County.
If the weather wasn’t absolutely perfect, finding fault with it would be the meteorological equivalent of nit-picking.
Well, okay, there was one slight problem.

GOOD MORNING: A picture perfect Easter Holiday weekend weather wise, sunny and warm, even hot Monday and Tuesday afternoons.  The weather outlook for this coming weekend does not appear to be all that inviting, however, but cheer up, Spring has definitely sprung.
Within just the past week, the Dogwood trees out my way have burst into bloom and the pollen, — yes, the pollen — that’s another entirely different story. Need I say more? Welcome to Spring, “Ah-Choo!”

Good gravy, we’re all fat.
Well, not everyone, but based on what I’ve been reading the past couple of days, it’s a minor miracle that we’re not all heart attacks waiting to happen.
After reading news stories on Tuesday, I can only imagine all us fatties are waving the white flag.

The long-awaited book, “The Historic Architecture of Halifax County, North Carolina,” has arrived and the authors and editors will be on hand from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on April 10 at the Halifax County Library in Halifax to sign copies.
This publication was begun with surveys of the rural landscape of the county in the mid 1980s by the Halifax County Historical Association, Inc. Architectural historian Henry Taves, a Boston native, completed this phase.

Franklinton police arrested a man this past weekend charged with making a false police report.
Zachary Mitchell Poole reported on March 26 that suspects pulled up in two vehicles and one suspect got out and fired at least seven rounds, one hitting him in the ankle.
The 21-year-old was  taken to Franklin Regional Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

LOUISBURG -- Thanks to a pair of conference victories, the Bunn Wildcats carried high hopes into last Friday’s opening game at the annual Verizon Wireless of Louisburg Invitational Baseball Tournament.
But the Wildcats couldn’t sustain the surge as Coach Leonard Allen’s club went 0-3 for the event and closed in last place in the eight-team format.

LOUISBURG  -- Offense wasn’t an issue when the Louisburg College Lady Hurricanes hosted long-time rival Spartanburg Methodist College for a key Region X fast-pitch softball doubleheader Friday afternoon.
Louisburg racked up a combined 18 runs in two games -- but the Lady Hurricanes were still only able to come up with one victory.

LOUISBURG -- Much more than tourney advancement was at stake when Warren County tangled with host Louisburg in first-round action last Friday afternoon at the annual Verizon Wireless of Louisburg Invitational Baseball Tournament.
Because of a scheduling conflict, the meeting was also deemed a Northern Carolina Conference game for a pair of teams with Class 2-A State Playoff aspirations.

RALEIGH -- The  Carolina Hurricanes have announced that the team will host the first-ever “Caniac Cookout” on Thursday prior to the team’s final National Hockey League home game of the 2009-10 season.
The lunchtime event will take place from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on the South Lawn between the RBC Center and Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh and is part of the Hurricanes’ Fan Appreciation Week festivities.
