Judge Lloyd remembered as a hero
Vance County District Court Judge H. Weldon Lloyd was a hero to many. Lloyd, 55 when he passed away of a heart attack on June 20 while at a judges’ conference at Wrightsville Beach, spent almost every waking hour in a wheelchair, having been handicapped by a type of muscular dystrophy since childhood.

Franklinton OKs highway grant; discusses graffiti ordinance
The Franklinton Board of Commissioners adopted a grant resolution Tuesday that appropriated $25,751 for the Governor’s Highway Safety Program from the town budget. The mission of the GHSP is to promote highway safety awareness and reduce the number of traffic crashes in North Carolina by way of good planning and execution of safety.

New bed, breakfast approved for Wolfpit off Highway 401
The Louisburg Board of Adjustment on Friday approved a request to allow a local historical home to operate as a bed and breakfast. “Wolfpit,” a 19th century plantation home owned by Fleet and Betsy Benning at 1501 U.S. Highway 401 South, received a conditional use permit from the board after Assistant Town Administrator Tony King made a presentation explaining the property’s zoning and use restrictions.
