Demolition of Youngsville building on hold for now
YOUNGSVILLE — Commissioners reversed a board decision within a matter of minutes after realizing their action could have an adverse impact on a business owner.

Louisburg will fight store’s ABC permit to control crime
The Louisburg Town Council resolved to fight a business’ attempt to get an ABC license saying such a permit would continue a trend of lawlessness and lewdness exhibited by drunken patrons.
During a meeting on Monday night, interim Administrator Ed Wyatt and town Zoning Administrator Tony King advised the board that the proprietor of the convenience store at the corner of South Main Street and Bunn Road was applying for a beverage permit from the Alcohol Beverage Control Commission.

Dave Harker was 61.
Harker moved to Youngsville in 2001 and, just as soon, immersed himself into the Republican Party, culminating in a run for the N.C. House of Representatives in 2006.

School board will pursue $53-million bond, Aug. ‘08
The Franklin County Board of Education will ask the county Board of Commissioners to call for an August 2008, stand-alone bond referendum for $53.3 million.
Holding the separate vote would cost $40-50,000, according to the county Board of Elections.

The Franklin County Arts Council hosted a reception July 12 at the Arts Center in Louisburg to recognize volunteers from the 2007 International Whistlers Convention and to present Allen de Hart with an award. At left, from left to right, are Rachel Stone, Elmar Holmes, Allen de Hart and Joe Shearon. Hart is holding a painting of himself marking a hiking trail. The art was done by state House Rep. Lucy Allen. De Hart was awarded the Law Recognition Award from the International Association of Whistlers for his hard work and contributions to the International Whistlers Convention. “This award is for all of us,” de Hart said. “This is not just for me — this is for all volunteers.”
