Dear editor: I'm glad that Mr. Harris now realizes that federal election laws are indeed constitutional, but saddened that he offers the same kinds of arguments against them that we used to hear against desegregation and the civil rights movement.
Like Mr. Harris, I am old enough to remember the violence and fear that boiled to the surface during that time.

BUNN -- Getting prepared for the Class 2-A State Playoffs is the main focus for the Bunn Ladycats as they work their way through the closing, makeup game portion of their 2021-22 schedule in the Big East Conference.
The first order of business for Bunn came last Friday night at home -- and the Ladycats certainly took care of business during a 70-29 victory over rival Louisburg as part of Senior Night festivities in front of a huge crowd at the Bunn Dome.

FRANKLINTON -- Fueled by an amazing performance from senior star Elana Griffin, the Northern Nash Lady Knights made a bit of history at the recent Big East Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Franklinton High School.
The Lady Knights claimed their first-ever league indoor crown with 198 total points to easily outdistance second-place Rocky Mount's 131 points.

ZEBULON -- The Milwaukee Brewers have named Victor Estevez as the new manager of the Carolina Mudcats for the 2022 season.
Estevez will be joined in Carolina by newly announced pitching coach Drew Thomas, hitting coach Ken Joyce, coach Jorge Ortega, athletic trainer Benny Arroyo and strength and conditioning specialist Jonah Mergen.

LOUISBURG -- For the safety of Franklin County residents and visitors, its medical director says the county needs to fire its emergency services director, remove the county manager from emergency services oversight and bring back its "ousted" emergency services director.
The county's Emergency Medical Services operates under the medical license of Dr. Barbara Stiehl.

More money for industrial park?
More money for industrial park?

LOUISBURG -- The Franklin County Board of Commissioners agreed to take a simultaneous path toward funding an access road project that economic development staff says will open up the county's industrial park.
Economic Development Director Richie Duncan informed commissioners that the State Department of Commerce has designated Triangle North Franklin as a bio-site -- meaning the county can apply for U.S. Economic Development Administration [EDA] funds to provide a road access and water and sewer to the site, which sits across from the county's airport.
