FRANKLIN COUNTY -- A majority of the 10 suspects arrested in a drug sting are slated to appear in court later this month.The Franklin County sheriff's office teamed up with agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the state alcohol law enforcement branch of the State Bureau of Investigation and officers with Louisburg and Henderson police departments to arrest suspects from Louisburg, Franklinton, Youngsville and the areas of Kittrell, Zebulon and Wake Forest.

After holding a brief discussion over the propriety of even meeting, the Louisburg town council held a nearly two hour executive session last Thursday evening and then adjourned after taking no action or even announcing what the purpose of the closed-door meeting had been.The meeting -- held in the old town hall facility on Nash Street instead of the more traditional Karl Pernell Safety Center meeting space -- began at about 6 p.m.Councilman Tom Clancy said almost immediately that it was his "understanding" that the meeting would not be valid because of what he termed issues of proper notification.

Two Bunn High School cheerleading coaches, Ashleigh Dvozenja and Tiffanie Sawyer, have been suspended without pay for an incident that allegedly happened just prior to a national cheerleading event over the weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC, which they and the cheerleaders attended.School officials, citing state personnel regulations, have released few details about the incident but comments made at a Board of Education meeting Monday evening helped fill in some of the details.

Deputies arrested a White Level man on charges that he used a pry bar during an attack. Porfirio Munoz Salinas, 75, was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
