Tony Brooks Pearce
December 24, 1937 - January 5, 2026

Tony Brooks Pearce, a cherished patriarch and respected community member, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in Wake County, NC. Tony was born on December 24, 1937, in Franklin County, NC, to the late Dorothy and Elbert Pearce. Tony's life was marked by his dedication to family, his passion for the outdoors, and his commitment to preserving history.

Tony's journey began as a spirited youth in Wakelon High School, where he not only excelled academically but also left a lasting legacy as the captain of the basketball, football, and baseball teams, earning the title of most athletic from his peers. His love for the natural world guided him to pursue and graduate with a degree in Wildlife Biology from NC State University. His career was as diverse as his interests; he worked for the USDA and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, before returning to North Carolina to obtain his electrical and contractor's license.

A man of many talents, Tony was known for his skills as a hunter, fisherman, cattle farmer, mechanic, coach, and master vegetable gardener. However, it was his role as a family historian that truly set him apart. His meticulous work in genealogy was renowned, with individuals across the country seeking his expertise. As a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, he took great pride in his heritage and the lessons of the past.

Tony was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty Cannon Pearce, his son, Tony "Brooks" Pearce II, his sister, Faye Wright, his nephew, Lamar Adams, his brothers-in-law, Bobby Cannon and Fred Wright, and his in-laws, Andrew and Nollie Cannon, Tony's memory will be a beacon of love and resilience for all who knew him.

Tony's legacy is carried on by his loving daughter, Gwendolynn Renee Pearce, his grandchildren, Kaitlynn McGuyrt (Clint), Scott Pearce-Schieber, Elizabeth Gusler (Dylan), Alexandria Parrish, and Cannon Parrish; his great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Karalynn McGuyrt, his nieces Jennifer Hubbard (Mike), Jamie Price (Lane), Jennifer Peoples (Mark), Stacey Lovelady (Raymond); his nephews Gene Cannon (Maxey) and Jackie Cannon (Melissa); his sisters-in-law Donna Adams and Grace Cannon; his brother-in-law, Alvin Adams and many great nephews and nieces, cousins, friends, and Suzanna Lee who was like a granddaughter to Tony.

Tony's influence extended beyond his family; he was a mentor to many, teaching his children and grandchildren the joys of fishing and hunting, and instilling in them a profound appreciation for nature. His presence at countless ballgames, coupled with his sage advice, made him a beloved figure on and off the field. Tony was a man of few words, but his words carried weight and wisdom that resonated with all who had the privilege to listen.

In every aspect of his life, Tony Brooks Pearce embodied the essence of a loving, kind, and thoughtful individual. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate a life well-lived and honor the legacy he leaves behind--a legacy of love, family, and an unwavering connection to the land and history he so dearly cherished.

A memorial service was held 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon January 11, 2026, at Pearce Baptist Church, 4688 Pearces Rd, Zebulon, NC 27597, officiated by Rev. Mark Cottrell.

The Pearce family will receive friends following the service in the Pearce Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
