If Gary Normand had taken his chances at trial, he could have faced at least 40 years in prison.

Green case headed toward August court date?
More than 15 months after leaving the sheriff’s office in disgrace, word on the street is that Pat Green will be in court next month.
Sheriff Jerry Jones said as much during the Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday night.
“What I can report,” Jones told commissioners, “is that the word coming from some in the court system is that it will come up on the August court calendar.

Hunted suspect gives up
A Youngsville man wanted by three different law enforcement agencies turned himself in to authorities.
Brandon Sills was placed in the Franklin County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
Franklinton authorities suspect Sills was responsible for a break-in reported at Inter-Technologies the morning of June 26.

FRANKLINTON — Town officials and staff have scheduled a meeting this week, hoping to prevent an argument to preserve history from making the town history.
The Southeast High Speed Rail Corridor is a state and federal project to connect Richmond, Va., to Raleigh, and South Carolina and Georgia.

The indoor reading outdoor thermometer at my house just east of Louisburg registered a steaming hot 106.3 degrees at 2 p.m. Sunday before dropping back to 104.4 later.

This past week, as the country celebrated its independence, groups in Franklin County provided a number of chances for families to join together and have fun.
First, the county’s Parks and Recreation Department hosted an early Fourth of July celebration, setting up

Enjoying the Spirit on a Norfolk river cruise!
Have you ever taken a trip on the Spirit of Norfolk in Virginia?
It is awesome. I used to take my Spanish students on this short trip over the Elizabeth River for years.
We made this trip at least once a year, and usually we took the one cruise when they celebrated Mardi Gras.
It was so much fun to get on the bus and spend all day long in Norfolk cruising down the river, eating lunch, singing, dancing, and viewing the most interesting places and ships all along the river.

Animal control adopts new, lower fees
Franklin County’s Animal Control office has adopted new, lower fees in hopes of spurring more adoptions.
Animal Control Director Taylor Bartholomew said this week that the office has dropped the fees for adoptions from $75 to $25.
The fees went in place on July 1.
