WENDELL – Laura Frances Richardson Culp, 95, formerly of Robinwood, died Sunday, March 11, 2012. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 14, in the Strickland Funeral Home chapel, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Pennsylvania at a later date.
APEX – Elizabeth Mullen Woolard, 77, died Monday, March 12, 2012. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Wendell with burial to follow in Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
ZEBULON – Louise Frazier Pearce, 94, died Saturday, March 10, 2012. Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 13, in the Zebulon Town Cemetery.
HENDERSON —Funeral services for Martha “Possum” Gregory, 86, who died Thursday, March 8, 2012, will be held on Thursday, March 15, at 1 p.m. at Mitchell Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Lillie officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
FRANKLINTON - Funeral services for Robert “Man” Crudup, 44, who died Saturday, March 10, 2012, will be held at noon Saturday, March 17, at Richardson Funeral Home in Louisburg, with the Rev. Claude Perry officiating.
FRANKLINTON-Marjorie Bannister Garner, 84, died Friday, March 2, 2012. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 10, at First Baptist Church in Franklinton, Rev. Andre Johnson, pastor. Interment, Manasseh Memorial, Franklinton.
ZEBULON - Jesse Daniel Peterson, 83, son of the late Letha Tew and Homer Clayton Peterson, died Friday, March 9, 2012. Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 13, at Pearces Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
ZEBULON - Jack Burns Keene, 80, died Saturday, March 10, 2012. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 13, at Hephzibah Baptist Church, Wendell.
FRANKLINTON - William (Billy) Shannon Ferguson, 21, of Lariat Lane, Franklinton, died Saturday, March 10, 2012. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 17, at the home of William Cutshaw and Tracy Ferguson at 2 p.m.
LOUISBURG - Funeral services for Pauline Clifton, 78, who died Monday, March 12, 2012, will be held Saturday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Spencer Davis officiating.
LOUISBURG – William Clyde Daniels, 85, of Louisburg, passed away Tuesday morning.
The Franklin County Board of Education handled a variety of personnel items Monday night, including the appointment of Michael Sheldon as an assistant principal at Louisburg High School.
In other action, the board accepted the retirement resignations of certified personnel Mary Allen and Meloni Bethea at Louisburg Elementary and Sandra Hooker at Youngsville Elementary.

The easiest thing for a public official is to say no.
The most difficult is to say no then offer a better alternative.
Unfortunately, especially at the federal and state levels, we’ve seen a lot of simplistic “no” answers and very few better alternatives.
GOOD MORNING: WHOOPEE! Spring has sprung, both literally and figuratively. The fact is, however, we haven’t had much to complain about in the way of winter weather, and the outlook for the remainder of this week calls for even warmer weather.
I’ve always thought that youth sports was an incredible thing.
It teaches children discipline, sportsmanship and camaraderie.
It teaches about sacrifice and teamwork and gives them an appreciation for physical activity — which is no small feat in a country where the obesity rate is climbing at an alarming rate.
Did the county commissioners and county staff have prior knowledge of property revaluation problems before citizens received their tax notices?

For several years I have been volunteering at our municipal animal shelter in Louisburg, and I know for a fact that there are thousands of wonderful animals that have entered the shelter system through no fault of their own.
Politicians say dumb things, often when cameras and reporters are present. Then they are forced to admit what they said was dumb or try to defend it. When they choose the latter course they always make things worse. Then they commit their third and dumbest mistake ... they clam up, praying their stupid statements will just fade away. They won’t.

With summer vacation right around the corner, many parents are starting to look for hobbies and extra-curricular activities to keep their children up and moving through those long summer days.
One activity to look into is digital photography. In case you haven’t noticed, kids today are way more adept at technology than any generation before them.
ENGAGED. Richard and Loretta Mainquist of Louisburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Rebecca Elizabeth Mainquist of Richmond, Va., to Matthew James Gibbons of Richmond, Va. The groom-elect is the son of James Gibbons and Kim Gibbons, also of Richmond, Va. An Oct. 6, 2012 wedding is planned at Blandfield Plantation in Tappahannock, Va.
Stacy Nicole Wood was recently inducted into the Louisburg College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two-year colleges.
Stacy is the daughter of Alisa Martin and is a graduate of Franklinton High School.
Distracted driving led to a wreck in Franklinton.
According to a report by Officer Terry Pearce, Valeria Barron was driving a 2004 Chevy south on Main Street just after 3 p.m. on March 8 when she reached for a dropped cell phone.
In her attempt to retrieve the device, the report states, Valeria drove into the back of a stopped vehicle operated by Regina Morgan.
