BUNN -- Bunn High School will be hosting its 2nd Annual Franklin County Baseball Clinic, which is scheduled for January 29.
The clinic will begin in the Bunn High School Gym and move outside after lunch, weather permitting. 
The cost of the camp is $35 per person, which includes lunch.

LOUISBURG -- A journey that began with a daily, one-block walk to the local rec fields culminated in December for Sheilah Cotten -- some 3,000 miles from her humble beginnings in Fuquay-Varina.
Cotten, the long-time coach at Louisburg College who retired in 2005, was honored as the lone member of the 2010 National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame class at the annual National Fast-Pitch Coaches Association meeting in San Diego, Calif.

Franklin County’s Parks and Recreation staff anticipate bringing a park proposal to commissioners early next year.
When Louisburg resident Edgar Owens died last January, he left in his will money for a county park.
Owens’ estate stood at about $1 million and about 80 percent of that was designated for a county park.

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved a new assistant manager position in the current budget, but financial considerations will determine if that post is filled before the end of the fiscal year.
The position, which Harris previously filled, was eliminated in 2003 — with Harris still in it.

Retired school personnel work toward progress
Since Nov. 3, 1980, the organization called Franklin County Retired School Personnel (FCRSP) has been working together for progress.
I have never seen so many folks with so much talent and creativity giving their time to do so many hours of volunteer work. They are just amazing, using as many as 1,000 hours of voluntary work a year to help the community and churches in the area.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! And that greeting goes double if advance weather forecasts for the first day of the new year calling for a daytime high of 63 degrees followed by an overnight low of 50 pan out, even if it does rain a little bit.
We’ve already experienced as much or more ice and snow than normal for an entire winter season and winter has only just begun, officially at any rate. I’m ready for Spring already, although we may have a long wait in store for us before that comes about.

RALEIGH – If you seek to measure the cost of a government, its budget is a good place to start. But your search won’t end there. Only some of the costs imposed by government in any given year show up in its operating budget.
When North Carolina policymakers and journalists say “the state budget,” for example, they typically mean only the General Fund – the programs funded mostly by income and sales taxes, while leaving out federal funds, highway funds, other fees and charges, and accrued liabilities.
