More snow to come?
As residents watch snow melt from this past weekend’s storm, meteorologists are keeping an eye on another weather pattern that threatens a wintry mix this coming weekend.
Forecasters say it’s too soon to be specific, but computer models suggest rain or snow  arriving with a storm Thursday night through Friday morning and, perhaps, another round of the same on Saturday.

Mendez court appearance gets delayed by snow
The case against a Louisburg High School student charged with killing his sister was snowed out this week.
It’s not clear when Joseph Mendez’s court appearance in Franklin County District Court will be made up, but his first-degree murder case is expected to move to a superior court docket soon.
Mendez’s attorney, Boyd Sturges, said his client would not be eligible for any bond until the District Attorney’s Office decides whether to pursue the death penalty, or not.

Not everyone onboard with high-speed rail
Last week, the federal government announced $8 billion in stimulus funding for rail service that it called an historic commitment.
Local leaders, though, hope one planned high-speed rail project doesn’t make the towns as they know them history.
Out of the $8 billion investment, $520 million will go toward improving the rail corridor between Charlotte and Raleigh.

DOT did a good job, but should re-evaluate brining
Okay, that’s enough winter already.
Bring on Springtime.
And let’s not bother with all that technical stuff like the fact that the first day of spring will be March 20.
As far as we’re concerned, let’s just waive the rules and start it. . .oh, say. . .now!

The groundhog may not come out of his hole, but I made it out of mine
The groundhog may not come out of his hole, but I made it out of mine
GOOD MORNING: I finally worked up enough nerve shortly after noon Monday to venture out of my burrow for the first time since packing it in and pulling the hole in behind me Friday evening. It was real dicey making my way down the hill from the house to Terrell Lane and thence out to NC 561 even though my ol’ buddy, Harold (Waterbed) Wood, had come over Sunday afternoon and scraped the path from my house down to the roadway.

Bad weather brings out bad drivers, military ban eliminates willing soldiers
I guess you could call it an evil smile.
There is always a little Mona Lisa smile I can muster when I see a sport utility vehicle spun out on the side of the road.
Now, understand, I don’t wish harm or injury on anyone, however, when it’s someone who has decided to drive too fast for the conditions, well, a spun-out SUV serves as the perfect reminder.

Obama, a government of one super egomaniac
Dear Editor,
Obama’s State of the Union message was typical of all his speeches — he speaks as if he is the only person there with his never ending repetition of “I,” “I,” “I.”  Somebody needs to tell the man the American people are tired of his presenting of himself that it is he who will fix everything.  We are not a country of Kings. Get out of the way Obama and go back to your desk for a few days or weeks rather than trying to get on national TV every single day; let Congress do their job.
