Shelby Cash, a former Stingray during her youth, is Town and Country's skipper -- and she is making quite an impact on the program.
Cash's mother, Jamie, used to be the TC coach, and Shelby went on to enjoy an exceptional career at Louisburg High School.

LOUISBURG -- Louisburg College is seeking a new men's basketball coach following the surprising resignation of skipper Neil Dixon.
Dixon, who has been the head coach at LC for the past four years, recently accepted a position on the Division I level as an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina-Asheville.

FRANKLIN COUNTY -- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association, in conjunction with Wells Fargo, has announced the final standings in the Wells Fargo Conference Cup competitions for the 2018-2019 sports season.
The Wells Fargo Cup award, sponsored by Wells Fargo and the NCHSAA, recognizes the schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performance within each of the state's four competitive classifications.

County approves 7-year contract for wireless broadband

LOUISBURG -- County commissioners agreed to move forward with an agreement that could bring Internet service to the unserved and underserved corners of the county.
"This is a much talked about topic and rightfully so," Denton told commissioners. "Improvements in broadband service can translate into improvement in the quality of life for our residents."

Hundreds of visitors wandered around downtown Louisburg last Friday night and midday on Saturday as 25 contestants applied their talents to barbecue, then made their products available for tasting and sale!
The event, dubbed Barbecue in the Burg, was deemed a major success and Louisburg officials are vowing to repeat it next year.

LOUISBURG -- Family, friends, aviation enthusiasts and the public have been invited to a Saturday ceremony honoring two people who've made significant contributions to the county's airport.
Stephen Merritt served as the county's airport director from January 2010 until his death in December 2017.

Bunn Rescue Squad closes up shop

LOUISBURG -- Another Franklin County rescue squad shut its doors.
Bunn Rescue Chief Sheila Strickland and rescue Board Chair Boston Pearce submitted a letter on June 12, shutting down the southern Franklin County squad.
County Manager Angela Harris acknowledged the closure during the county commissioners' Monday night meeting.

LOUISBURG -- After a little bit of wrangling, Christopher Cooper wrestled a good-sized catfish from the pond that was nearly as big as he was.
High fives were given. Pictures were taken. The bewhiskered fish was given a kiss. Then, it was tossed back into the water.
His sister, though, was not to be outdone as she plucked a whopper from the pond, too.

Louisburg adopts no-tax-increase budget

LOUISBURG -- It's official, town residents won't see a property tax increase in the new fiscal year because of the new budget passed unanimously Monday night, but the cost of water is going up for some and the cost of owning vehicles will increase by $10 a year per vehicle.
The budget, which totals $13,724,275, leaves the tax rate unchanged at 45-cents per $100 of valuation.

Franklinton budget requires no tax hike

FRANKLINTON -- Town commissioners approved a budget with little discussion and little fanfare on Tuesday night.
The roughly $2.2 million spending plan for 2019-2020 maintains the town's tax rate at 72 cents per $100 of valuation.

Documentary film on voter suppression will be aired here

LOUISBURG -- The county's National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is slated to screen a documentary film about the battle to oppose voter suppression.
The film, Rigged, is dedicated to civil rights icon and Franklin County native Rosanell Eaton.
The film, produced by American Issues Initiative out of New York, has taken the film on the road and is bringing it to Louisburg on Monday, June 24.
