Steven A. “Andy” Darnell, a staff accountant with Pittard Perry & Crone, Inc. in their New Bern office, has successfully passed all four parts of the Uniform Certified Public Accounting Exam and has earned the designation of Certified Public Accountant. 1102.Louisburg police are busy
LOUISBURG -- Louisburg police arrested a man on drug and gun charges.According to authorities, the incident was alleged to have happened in the 800 block of Bickett Boulevard just before 10 a.m. on Dec. 18.Jeffrey Ellis Perry II, 31, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for the sale of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed gun.

The Franklin Times has been an integral part of Franklin County for more than 140 years and local historian Joe Pearce has found at least four locations in Louisburg where the newspaper’s offices have been located. The newspaper was known to be in the Perry Neal Building on Main Street in 1890; then it was in a building on Nash Street near where the old movie theater building is now located; then, from 1909 to 1956, it was on Court Street in front of the building shown here.

1107.Franklinton man faces assault, kidnap charges
Authorities arrested a Franklinton area man suspected of an assault and kidnapping that was apparently fueled by a drunken rage. Willie Perry’s mother, though, told deputies that the victim helped trigger the incident. Investigators were dispatched to a home in the 5400 block of N.C. 56 West to find Perry and his girlfriend, Tyesha Thomas, involved in a domestic dispute the evening of June 15.

Churches -- and the buildings that house the congregations -- are an important part of Franklin county's history and heritage.In 2015, Franklin County began a comprehensive survey of the county's historic architecture, in an effort to record and preserve the county's rich history and wonderful legacy. The county hired Commonwealth Heritage Group, Inc., of Tarboro to conduct the survey, which is being led by Dr. Jeroen van den Hurk, an architectural historian.

1118.Should killer get parole?
RALEIGH -- A Warrenton man sentenced to life in prison for killing a pregnant woman in the spring of 1991 could soon find out if he gets parole.Edward R. Scott, 45, was sentenced in October 1991 to spend the rest of his life in prison for his role in the shooting death of Josephine "JoJo" Dale, a 22-year-old woman pregnant with twins.Two co-defendants, Kenneth W. Perry and Calvin Elps, both 45, were paroled in 2012 and 2013, respectively.

LOUISBURG — All but one of the suspects arrested in an attempted murder case are slated to appear in court this month.Jamacies C. Nu Epsilon Chapter President Phyllis R. Perry and Third Vice President Geraldine Manley helped with voter registration recently at the Blessings Inc. Franklin County has yet to approve the planning necessary to allow a nonprofit group to begin a halfway house-style rehab center, but organizers continue to drum up support. The Perry’s School Alumni Association petitioned commissioners in June for a text amendment that designated how group care facilities would be operated and where they could be located.

Dear editor: It truly does take a village! Many citizens made it possible for Kamliah Perry to get her car up and running after finding out she had been sold a car with a blown head gasket and subsequent engine damage. (See previous letter to editor in the July 25 edition of The Franklin Times.) Some folks helped with advice and support, 20 individuals made generous cash contributions as did the United Way community and some, namely Greg and Keith Smith of Pete Smith Automotive, contributed the labor necessary to install a new/used engine.

The majestic house was designed by the prolific local architect, Marion Stuart Davis, for Brantley G. Hicks, who owned a dry goods store on the north side of East Nash Street (to the right of the current law offices of Williamson and Williamson as you face them).

LOUISBURG -- Prosecutors and attorneys are slated to update three murder cases dating back to the summer of 2017.Authorities arrested Adam Jake Helms in August 2017, alleging he was responsible for shooting his father, Loy Helms, in the head and killing him.The morning of Sept. 5, 2017, Charles Devante Perry-Pender surrendered to authorities and he was charged with killing Montral Kearney outside a Franklinton home the afternoon before.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Franklinton man on drug charges. According to a report by Dep. Antoine Eaton, he was patrolling an undeveloped area of Kendall Forest Subdivision in the Franklinton area — an area noted for drug activity — when he came upon a red car parked on the side of the road.

LOUISBURG -- A Lake Royale man was killed last week in a head-on collision.Matthew Keenan, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 8:30 a.m. crash on N.C. 39 between Bennett Perry and Dick Baker Road.According to Trooper C.R. Lanham, John Truelove of Louisburg was traveling south on the two-lane roadway when he crossed the center line on Aug. 14.

Fisher, one of the men stabbed Bolden, who was treated at WakeMed for non life-threatening injuries.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects who hindered a man’s business interest. Geanie Perry reported on April 7 that someone stole a red, dual axle trailer that he had parked at 1910 N.C. 561. According to the report by Dep. Bill Garrett, Perry had parked the 1974 trailer at the location because he was using it to open a fish market.

The family of a toddler injured in an ATV wreck that killed an eight-year-old said the driver of the pickup truck, not the operator of the four-wheeler was at fault. According to the State Highway Patrol, Trevor Tyler was driving a four-wheeler north on Reynolds Road and crossed N.C. 561 without stopping at a stop sign just after 8 p.m. on May 19.

The Franklin County Tourism Development Authority recommended providing advertising money for a proposed farm antique show this spring. David Bunn and Nelson Ross presented the authority with their plans to host the Luther Perry Farm Antique Show the weekend of April 17. The inaugural event is designed to raise interest about antique farm equipment in a family friendly way. “This event could really blow up if it’s done right,” Bunn said.

BUNN -- After combining for 809 total yards of offense, it was almost symbolic that the outcome of Friday's regular season football opener between Wilson Fike and homestanding Bunn would come down to a single yard.That yard was one the Wildcats couldn't obtain on a 2-point conversion that came up just short of the end zone with 50 seconds remaining in the contest.Bunn's rushing attempt on the play wasn't successful, and the Demons escaped Franklin County with a 43-42 triumph in a showdown between two high-octane offenses.
