GOOD MORNING: ‘Tis the day after Christmas, but other than that, there’s very little I can say about the Christmas Holiday just yet seeing as how today’s edition was put to bed, as the saying goes, and actually printed a day before Christmas. But the advance weather forecast looked anything but bright, I might add. While temperatures locally were expected to be somewhat on the mild side for this time of the year, the weatherman was calling for an 80% chance of rain on Christmas Day and a 70% chance Saturday.

2806.Key player reports his 'increasing confidence' about hospital's future
Since late last year when Novant Health abruptly closed Franklin County's only hospital, questions have swirled about what is being done to revive the facility.With that in mind, the Louisburg Town Council asked one of its members, Boyd Sturges, to provide an update on the situation even though Sturges has repeatedly cautioned that some of the details of the situation must be kept private as negotiations progress.Sturges, a local attorney, spearheaded the town's efforts to deal with Novant and has been in the forefront of efforts to deal with the loss of the hospital.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects in two possible break-in cases.At about 12:30 a.m. on March 20, a landlord reported that someone tried to break into a property in the 400 block of Mount Hebron Road in the Castalia area of the county.According to the report by Dep. Brandon Strickland, they arrived to meet the landlord, who told officers that the resident was at home when she heard someone trying to open the back door.

LOUISBURG - Iris Frazier Southerland, 91, of Louisburg, affectionately known to many as "Little Mama" or "Ms. Ike," went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on July 13, 2017. Ms. Ike epitomized a true southern lady who was full of grace and humility. She was a model wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. While she will always be remembered for her kind, gentle, nurturing heart and her outstanding Sunday lunches, her most outstanding attributes were her strong Christian faith and her dedication to her Lord. Ms. Ike was well known for her Biblical knowledge and not only was readily able to quote scripture, she lived her life daily by following God's word.

LOUISBURG -- Franklin County high school students who drive to school got a little financial gift from the county Board of Eduction Monday night. In an unexpected move, the school board eliminated the $50 per student parking fee for all four high schools for at least the 2018-19 school year.The school board had been considering standardizing the student parking fee at $50 a year for all four high schools, including the Early College High.

Authorities arrested a suspected drunken driver who was leaving a day care with a loaded shotgun, a large knife and the picture of a woman he broke into a house looking for four days prior. Issac Jeffrey Pender Jr., 29, was placed in jail under a more than $1 million bond. “We don’t know for sure what his intentions were (at the day care),” said Franklin County Sheriff’s Capt. E.H. ZEBULON -- Authorities arrested a Louisburg woman last week, alleging she was responsible for a wreck that killed her 5-year-old son and sent her husband to the hospital.
