BUNN -- Bunn was in a zone to begin the second half -- and that’s not necessarily to the preference of veteran head coach Gerald Melton. Given his options, Melton would much rather utilize a man-to-man defense against his opponent, but that clearly wasn’t garnering much success for the Wildcats in the first half of their Northern Carolina Conference semifinal showdown Thursday against backyard rival Franklinton.

3184.The legislature has gone too far
Most of us watch the shenanigans in state government and mark it up to politicians and their egos run amuck. We turn our heads when House Speaker Thom Tillis does something disingenuous like giving huge pay increases to his staff at the same time he is slashing spending throughout state government. But our representatives have crossed the line by naming stock car racing as the official sport of North Carolina.

It was with a feeling of personal loss that I learned of the death of Louisburg native Peter S. “Pete” Allen on Saturday down on the North Carolina coast where he had made his home for so many years.
