3303.Who’s going to fill Lucy’s seat?
GOOD MORNING: So that was it! Times publisher Gary Cunard and I have been discussing the eerie quiet that had enveloped the local scene for the last several weeks— usually a sure sign that something is up. House of Representatives to accept an appointment to the State Utilities Commission by Gov. Beverly Perdue at a salary of some $100,000 a year.

3310.Heart-felt gesture
Since June of 1952, Clarence Williams has carried around the memory of his brother, Amos, who died in Korea. What he had never been able to carry around, though, was any tangible record of his brother’s service and ultimate sacrifice. That changed almost 57 years to the date his brother died, though, through a chance meeting that everyone involved is sure was divine intervention. “It’s amazing how things come together,” said Bill Spruill, who found a Purple Heart certificate and letter from President Harry Truman that belonged to Amos Williams in an old tenement house in northern Franklin County.
