805.Long-time Youngsville firefighter died in line of duty
YOUNGSVILLE -- Funeral services for a longtime firefighter and community stalwart are set for today, Feb. 29.Youngsville Fire Department Safety Officer Louis Dunston died Feb. 20, in what is characterized as a line of duty death. He was 78.On Feb. 19, the U.S. Fire Administration said, Dunston was participating in departmental training. The next day, Dunston experienced an apparent cardiac arrest, authorities said, and could not be revived.

824.Historical marker honors Lewis and Clark explorer
Louisburg native Richard Warfington took part in one of the greatest expeditions this country has known. For those who set out to have his place in history recognized, their journey ends on June 6 with the unveiling of an historical marker. Members of the Carolina Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Heritage Foundation have worked for years toward this dedication. Warfington was the sole North Carolinian to serve as a member of the Lewis and Clark expedition to the west.

847.Couple arrested for multi-county crime spree
A Middlesex pair was  slated to appear in court Friday after investigators say the duo went on a multi-county crime spree, stealing jewelry from as many as 20 houses, including a handful of homes in Franklin County. Investigators arrested Richard Phillip Mullins, 36, and Lindsey Marie O’Hara, 28, of N.C. 231 on Tuesday after investigators tightened a probe that began with reports of home break-ins in several counties, including Franklin, Nash, Wake, Johnston and Wilson.

LOUISBURG -- Federal, state and local authorities allege a former Franklin County sheriff's deputy knowingly sold stolen guns to convicted felons at his pawn shop in town.On Tuesday, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office charged Richard B. Shearin, 50, with two counts of felony possession of stolen property and one count of felony possession of a stolen firearm. More charges are pending.
