LOUISBURG - Crowell Perry Strickland, age 87, died on August 13, 2011. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Strickland was the son of Bennett Perry and Geneva Breedlove Strickland and was one of sixteen siblings. His home place, located near Bunn, NC, was built by his father of lumber harvested from the family farm.

LOUISBURG - The Louisburg Warriors will head into the Class 1-AA State Football Playoffs as the No. 2 seed out of the Tar-Roanoke Athletic Conference following a home victory last Friday over Northampton East to close regular season action. LHS wrapped up the second spot with a 54-32 decision versus the Rams that left the Warriors with a 4-1 league mark to go with a 8-3 overall record.

819.Fire destroys historic Mount Olive school
The building at  100 William Perry Road meant a lot to a lot of people. Dating back to 1908, it served as home to one of Franklin County’s earliest schools for African Americans. By the 1950s, it was home to William A. Bell Perry and his family of 11. On the afternoon of June 30, it became a memory as a fire gutted the building.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a man being thrown from a moving vehicle, but evidence suggests otherwise. Deputies were sent out  to the 7800 block of N.C. 39 S. near Zebulon during the early morning hours of Sept. 14 after getting a call that a man had been thrown out of a vehicle.

Army Pvt. Lamar T. Perry has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

849.Domestic dispute turns into road rage and gunfire
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies are investigating allegations that a domestic dispute erupted into a fit of road rage and gunfire. According to reports by Dep. Keith Jones, he was dispatched to a domestic dispute at 124 Browns Way the evening of Nov. 16 and Latashia Tucker told him that Tray Perry had come by her house to pick up his children. Tucker told authorities that she denied Perry that opportunity because he appeared to be drunk. In response, Tucker said she and Perry began to argue and had a physical altercation.

LOUISBURG -- At the urging of a dog park champion, county commissioners agreed to look into the spending for the facility at Pilot Lions Park.Parks and recreation and county officials and staff hosted a ribbon cutting for the dog park back in March -- about 10 months after commissioners agreed to spend up to $130,000 to complete the project.While dog park advocates, like Wendy Perry, were happy to have the park open and available, it did lack adequate benches and, most importantly, shade.

The case against a clan of suspects charged with a home invasion and murder has been declared exceptional because the sheer volume of defendants will take it more time to proceed through the court system.
