As fall arrives, county's court project cost increases (relevance: 15%, date: Oct 15, 2025)
If anyone had any doubts about fall being in the air, Mother Nature certainly erased those doubts last weekend, especially on Sunday.
Cloudy, an off-and-on drizzle and brisk breezes -- which sometimes reached downright windy levels -- made it clear that fall is indeed here.
Fortunately, most of that Nor'easter stayed well east of Franklin County and we got a little rain that was desperately needed.
Out Mapleville way, east of The Burg, we recorded just about three-quarters of an inch, less that what we need but more than enough to settle the dust.

Chastain wins back right to again seek elected office (relevance: 13.9%, date: Oct 15, 2025)
LOUISBURG -- A superior court judge has notified attorneys that an ousted clerk of court can seek office again.
Superior Court Judge Thomas Lock's decision -- when issued and filed -- would end a more than five year legal battle that began when a Louisburg attorney Jeffrey Scott Thompson asserted in the summer of 2020 that Patricia Chastain was unfit to serve as clerk of superior court.
Chastain filed for and ran for the clerk of court post in 2022 -- while her legal status remained pending -- but lost by just more than 400 votes.
